  • 231: Lindsay Mayuga - On The Sunny Side

Today, I shared my journey of awakening to the reality that my career and life weren't as fulfilling as I once believed. I thought I had it all figured out – a successful salon, a partnership, a marriage – but it all came crashing down. The turning point was when my business partner walked away and my marriage crumbled. It was a wake-up call that made me realize I had been living on autopilot. This experience taught me the importance of taking ownership of our lives and not settling for mediocrity.

I want you to know that if your life doesn't feel awesome right now, it's okay. Sometimes, it takes a life-shaking event to inspire positive change. I went from planning a lonely 30th birthday to enjoying a vibrant life filled with meaningful relationships and a newfound passion for helping others. Embracing authenticity, creating space in my life, and running my career on my terms transformed my world.

Now, I'm a mom and a hairstylist, living life unapologetically. I want you to understand that you can do the same. Whether it's starting a podcast, writing a book, or simply living more authentically, it's possible to create a beautiful life. The journey may be uncomfortable, but the destination is worth it. Trust the process, and you'll find yourself on the sunny side of life, fully present and embracing every moment.

  • 229: Lindsay Mayuga - Who Am I To...

In this episode, I dive into the powerful question, "Who am I to...?" It's all about questioning the limitations we place on ourselves in our businesses and lives. As hairstylists, we often struggle with feelings of unworthiness, which have deep roots in our industry's history. With the advent of social media, we suddenly have desirable careers, but we lack the inner strength to fully embrace it.

We find ourselves stuck in salons that don't truly honor us, and we become people pleasers, constantly apologizing for taking up space. However, it doesn't have to be this way. We can break free from these patterns by understanding our worth and building our internal strength. It's about realizing that we are responsible for our own lives and that making changes, like raising our prices or enforcing policies, is a sign of growth, not something to fear.

Ultimately, it's a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, learning to honor ourselves and live life on our own terms. So, ask yourself, "Who am I to limit what I can achieve?" You have the power to create the life you truly deserve.

In this episode of "She Makes Waves," I delve into the relationship between our mindset and money. I share my personal journey of growing up with limited finances and initially dismissing the importance of money. But along my own journey, I've come to realize that our mindset around money can profoundly impact our ability to lead the life we desire. I tell you about the awesome changes that happened when I embraced the idea that money could enable me to prioritize what truly matters: meaningful connections, heart-led projects, and cherished experiences with my daughter. I also touch on the need for hairstylists, and others, to normalize having a big life, confidently valuing their skills, and learning from different professions. Throughout the episode, I emphasize the importance of evolving our mindset to unlock new possibilities and appreciation for our unique life journey. Join the community over on Instagram!
