  • Trump Tariff Fallout for Small Businesses

Summary: Trump's idiotic tariffs will harm small businesses, which employ 46% of Americans, and help large enterprises (his greatest donors and friends). Listen if you love free trade or want to understand why these tariffs are so destructive.

This episode is an interview Colin did with Impact Founder alongside his friend and former colleague, Jackie Ros Amable. Colin and Jackie are both small business founders/CEOs who are laser focused on getting their companies through the ongoing global trade disaster. Colin discusses tariffs philosophically, tactically, and financially. Shout out to the Trump Administration for ignoring 600 years of literature on protectionism and starting the dumbest trade war of all time.

  • DOGE Layoffs - Quick Thoughts

Let's start treating people like human beings. The DOGE layoffs are idiotic, cruel, and harmful. Elon Musk is sociopathic, and I'm tired of people celebrating others getting hurt. You can be excited by the government getting smaller (even if it's in the wrong ways), while not celebrating others' torment.

  • Episode 5: What Is A Tariff, and Why Does Donald Trump Love Them?

What are tariffs? Why does Donald Trump want tariffs? Why are we passing tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China? Should we pass tariffs? What are the economics of tariffs?

As someone who has paid tariffs routinely under 3 presidential administrations over the past 7 years, I break down what a tariff is, and is not.

  • Post-Election Chat Between a Trump and Kamala Voter

In this episode, Colin talks to Anthony Franco, founder of consumer brand McSquares and fellow Denverite. Anthony is a good guy, thoughtful, hard working, intelligent, and in a completely different bubble than Colin is. Colin and Anthony dive into what went wrong for Democrats to get so thoroughly blown out, what policies resonated with Anthony as a Trump voter, and how they could possibly see the world so differently despite their similarities.

For people looking for a polite, thoughtful conversation between two people on opposite sides of the aisle seeking understanding and empathy, I hope you enjoy. For those still reeling emotionally from Tuesday, perhaps it's too soon to listen to this – I do have my criticisms of Harris and the Democrats, which may not feel good to hear right now.

Apologies for the background noise; we filmed this the day after the election, so Colin was of course at a bar.

  • Episode 3: Why I'm Voting For Kamala Harris – WITHOUT Mentioning Donald Trump

In this episode of Connecting the Dots, I go into detail on a few of the policies that I'm excited about from Kamala Harris. I think she has very strong pro-small-business policies, and some innovative ideas I haven't heard before. Increasing the standard small business tax deduction to $50k is huge for entrepreneurship and small businesses barely scraping by, and I also discuss her proposals for more clean energy, forgivable $20k loans for black and Latino entrepreneurs, $25k down payment housing stipends, $6k per child tax credit, cannabis legalization, Medicare-financed aging-in-place home care, and a few other policies that came to mind while filming this episode.

We're two weeks until the election, and early voting has started. I hope you vote for a brighter, more optimistic, more thoughtful future, and make your voice heard!

  • Post-Debate Thoughts (Trump v Kamala, 9/11/24)

Morning-after reactions to the first (only?) 2024 presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, recorded on September 11, 2024.

    Four key themes:

    1. Who won and why (Kamala)
    2. Abortion
    3. Immigration ("they're eating the cats!")
    4. The Overton Window and level of discourse

Commentary by Colin McIntosh. Colin is best known as the Founder & CEO of sustainable bedding brand Sheets & Giggles. Sheets & Giggles was ranked #309 on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies in America, and was even featured on Good Morning America for Earth Day 2023.  Colin is also known as "The Left's Pillow Guy". Colin will run for political office one day and hopes to be a sane, calm voice with imaginative ideas to the problems of the day.
