Shelf Indulgence: A Bookish Podcast

This week we are bringing you a double-bill! We have read two books by the anonymous Japanese author, Uketsu. Tune is as we discuss eerie vibes, surreal twists and whether the mysteries were mysterious enough to satisfy our wannabe-detective desires.

Surprise! We've rebranded, look at us all shiny and new, except we're exactly the same, just with a snazzy new name and a logo, almost like we've gone into Witness Protection ... but Laurie Gilmore doesn't have the budget to take out a hit on us.

This week in our not so brand new podcast, we're discussing The Raven Scholar, Amy takes ages to choose a contingent to pledge to, Liv stumbles her way through deciding whether this is high fantasy and together they get excited for the sequel and all the plot it contains. Spoilers as always and welcome to the first of many shelf indulgences.

It’s business as usual today as we discuss a new romantasy offering, The Death Made Prince. Full dislclaimer: we call one of the main characters by the wrong name the ENTIRE episode. It turns out he is not named after a pungent smelling fruit popular in southeast Asia - sorry! Hope you still enjoy! A x

We're baaack! We promised we would be! To ease us in we've decided to Tier list all of the books we read in 2025 and we've even played around with using video! We're so hot in 4k!

Thankyou for sticking with us and thankyou for all the Heated Rivalry love, if you'd have told us we'd have gotten 650+ listens on that one episode alone, we'd have said "Liar. Liar told you that."

Anyway, see you next week for some sexy necromancers as they attempt to make us love Romantasy again...

Hello everyone! Thankyou for sticking with us, we'll be back and I can only apologise for the amount of times I say UM in this video - Amy and I do well from the edit as you can tell.

Amy sends her love too and we hope you're still listening to us when we're back in February! Maybe there'll be some more changes other than my hair?? All our love xx

Well Nat Cassidy, I hope you're proud of yourself - it's not unlike Amy and I to get deep and emotional on the podcast but we definitely went deeper and sadder than we ever have and it's all your fault.

Happy belated Halloween - this week we talk all things parental issues, masking is just shapeshifting for boring humans and how therapy made Nat Cassidy write a book and probably become a well adjusted member of society. We stan a therapy king #therapygirlies

Enjoy and see you next week for our finale of halloween - My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

Happy Spooky Season! We know there's nothing scarier than our upload schedule but we promise we are back!

In this episode we discuss the newest offering by Rachel Harrison. Enjoy x

Kicking off spooky season with a literary classic that shaped the gothic horror genre. There's so much rain and we try to add our own unique thoughts to a book that has already been over analysed for years.

Expect, some wanking chat, us attempting to make everyone gay and as always Stars in their Eyes references.

Happy Reading! Liv x

We're back!!!

Apologies for our longer than planned break (and the likely terrible edit to explain why in this episode...) but we are back and raring to go!

This week, we accidentally read literary fiction and...enjoyed it!? It's time for another "TikTok Sensation" but this time expect less dragons, spice and shadow daddies and a lot more terrifying existential-crisis inducing questions.

Enjoy!

The author of the Air Awakens series and the Married to Magic series, comes the first in a suspected trilogy, maybe a duology about Tarot Card magic in an academy setting, with a fake engagement, a missing sister, an evil king, an evil brother, a heist and a bunch of other tropes along with some one dimensional side characters lumped in to make this 600 page book feel like an epic.

Sorry guys, not the one for us this week - maybe it's time for us to lay off Romantasy for a while ey?
