Why trauma, nervous system survival, and dopamine chasing can make abusive or chaotic relationships feel normal - and why that matters for healing.
What feels normal to you might not actually be healthy - and that’s not your fault.
In this episode, I explore how chaotic, emotionally unsafe, or abusive environments can become normalised over time. When certain behaviours, emotional states, and nervous system responses are repeated enough, they stop feeling alarming and start feeling familiar.
I talk about how living in constant stress or survival mode - especially when the nervous system is stuck in fight or flight - can wire the body and brain to accept instability, inconsistency, or harm as “just how things are.” This can begin in childhood and quietly continue into adulthood, shaping the relationships we choose and the behaviour we tolerate.
We look at:
* How abuse, chaos, and emotional neglect become normalised
* Why familiar doesn’t equal safe
* How the nervous system adapts to chronic stress and stays on high alert
* Why people may tolerate or repeat unhealthy dynamics later in life
* The role of dopamine chasing, trauma bonds, and emotional highs and lows
* How early patterns can influence adult relationships without conscious awareness
If you’ve ever questioned why you stayed, why it felt hard to leave, or why you keep ending up in similar dynamics - this episode offers insight without blame, shame, or judgement.
Awareness is the first step in breaking patterns that were never meant to be permanent.
