  • Shift From Practice To Life

    Hello there, how are you?

Let's take a long deep breath.

    —

    Come fully into this moment.

    —

I’m going to step outside and listen for a moment.

    —

    Listen to the waves.

    —

    All our attention right here.

    —

    —

Shifting your state of mind entails first shifting into presence — a shift of your mind fully into the present moment.

So we begin our shifts by bringing 100% of our attention into wherever we are and whatever we're doing in this moment.

Sometimes that might mean closing your eyes and listening to the thoughts arising in your mind.

Other times it might mean opening your eyes and paying close attention to something you're looking at — as though you want to draw it.

We want to notice all the details we can experience to bring ourselves into as much presence as possible.

Doing that by completing shifts like we're doing right now for example, or by completing exercises when you're in therapy or coaching perhaps, are examples of life happening as you practice.

When you understand that your practice in this moment is your life, (i.e., that there is no difference between the moment that we say goodbye at the end of a Shift and the rest of your day spent in presence), you become more effective at remaining present for more of your day.

Connecting more to that insight helps you stay present for as much of your day as possible.

So let’s understand our moments of practice as moments of our lives.

That way, when your child looks up at you it’s another moment of practice, and it’s also a beautiful moment of miraculous life that you receive and respond to as such.

As you experience your life that way, you are bringing more presence into your life.

As you do that more and more, practice fades away and a life of increasing presence emerges more within you.

Once that happens, anytime you notice that you’re not present it will feel like an aberration for you.

So you'll notice when you don’t feel present.

And you'll think to yourself, “I don't feel very present. What's going on here?”

In those moments, maybe you'll come back to do a Shift to practice again for a little bit.

And when you come back to practice, you’ll remember again that practice is life.

    Each moment is life.

Whether you call it practice, or you are working, or living your personal life, or making art, or relaxing, or sharing, or supporting someone — giving your love — it's all one piece.

    It's all of a piece.

    It's all beautiful, miraculous life.

Let’s take a long, deep breath.

And drop into this moment of life.

I'm seeing beautiful cloud formations over the candles from the hut today.

    What do you see?

Bring all your attention into right now.

And let's just listen, and look, and feel.

Feel our bodies buzzing with life.

    Buzzing as life.

    Buzzing as presence.

Let’s take a minute in presence together before we get back to our days.

    —

    —

    —

If your attention ever gets distracted from your intention to stay present — to have all your attention here and now, listening, seeing, feeling, being — just invite your attention back into silence.

And notice how your body feels as you return to inner silence.

    —

    —

    Perfect.

    Nice deep dive.

Let's take away from today the idea that a deep dive into presence that we take when we complete a Shift together is the same presence as the dive you can take back into your life at the end of a Shift.

So let’s dive back into whatever we are doing next today.

    Dive into presence again.

    Have a great one.

    I'll talk to you soon.

  • Shift With A Favorite Meditation

Here's one of my favorite meditations.

Let's begin by taking a deep breath in.

    —

    And out.

    —

Come into the present moment — even more fully than you are now.

    Invite all your attention in.

Feel your attention coming into your body.

Feeling yourself aligned with the space you're sitting.

Notice your body pressing against whatever you're pressing against — a seat, the ground, a bed.

    Notice.

    —

Release all the stories in your mind for a little while.

    Just focus here, listening.

    —

    Being.

    —

    Feeling.

    —

And know that by meditating, you're strengthening your ability to do this in real time throughout your day — throughout your life.

And that allows you to focus your attention wherever you want to focus it throughout your days.

So again, bringing your attention back to feeling your body now.

Can you notice the tingling in your body?

Notice either your whole body or part of your body.

You can squeeze your thumb, and then release it, and notice all the blood rushing in.

You can pick up that sensation as a way of noticing a feeling in your body, if that helps.

It's a good way to engage with your tingling body — the life energy flowing through your body.

Then you can notice your whole hand from there.

So put your attention into your hand.

Just notice it for a while.

    —

Can you capture the feeling of your whole arm now buzzing with aliveness?

    Feel it tingling.

    —

    —

    —

    Good.

Feel that presence and stay with it.

If you want to, bring your attention out to your entire body at once.

Notice your entire body tingling now.

    Relax into your body.

    Noticing it.

    Just being here with me.

    Take a deep breath.

Let's sit in silence for a while.

    —

    —

    —

    Perfect.

    Have a great day.

  • Shift Into Life

    Hey there, how are ya?

I almost made it through the whole day without really taking a deep dive into presence.

I was working on a Shift during my deep dive this morning.

Sometimes when I tinker, I'm not taking my own deep dive as much as usually benefits me.

So if you missed yours for the day so far too, join me in a deep dive now.

Let’s take all of our attention and come into the present moment.

I'm going to start by listening to life.

    I'm out for a walk.

    Coming up on sunset here.

I hear some birds in the background.

    What do you hear?

    —

    I hear the ocean rolling.

And now let's take all our attention and notice the trillions of cells that buzz us into existence.

Let’s just focus on our buzzing life.

Allow ourselves to be rejuvenated by projecting nothing onto ourselves — just straight aliveness, straight being.

    Feel and be.

    —

    —

Notice that mind coming into silence.

Everything quiets down as you listen and feel.

Let any thoughts that you notice to fade into silence.

Just a silent mind, a silent body.

    —

    Feel that buzz of presence.

    —

You'll notice as you take a bit of consistent time just coming into full presence, listening to life, being life, that you will recharge more and more quickly as you do it.

You'll drop more deeply into your deep dives into presence more rapidly.

And you'll get filled up by that pure clean energy of being connected to your buzzing life.

So let's spend another 30 seconds or so, sinking totally into the deep dive of the presence of your body and your life now.

    Just feel and be.

    —

    —

    —

    You feeling at peace?

    Are you feeling rejuvenated?

    Or, did you get distracted?

Let's take another 15 seconds, just being in peace.

    Let everything go.

    —

    —

    Beautiful.

    All right, nice recharge.

Have a great day or evening, whatever it is for you.

And set that intention to stay present.

And I will talk to you soon.

  • Shift Into Your Life's Next Step

Let’s take a long deep breath.

    —

    Try to stay present.

    All your attention right here.

    —

    Not getting distracted.

If you do get distracted anytime, just bring your attention back to listening to life.

Listen to life for a little while.

    —

    —

What’s the next step in my life?

It’s such a persistent question with we humans, isn't it?

    We're always asking, What's next? What's next?

One thing that helps with knowing your ‘What's next?’ answer is to recognize that anyone that you've ever talked to, or met, or learned about, who did what they were meant to do for their life — who lived their purpose and fulfilled their destiny — if they would tell you that, they would also tell you that they felt for it to find it.

Then they followed what they felt.

They knew who they were because they felt it.

So much of our world is driven by thinking, and the mind, and figuring things out.

Running facts, running logic has gotten us so much comfort and safety for so many people — we have a long way to go, but we've made a lot of progress because of that.

That said, to the degree that progress is at the expense of our shared understanding that the feeling life — feeling for what's right for you, for what's next for you — is the genius of what the human body is.

Feeling is what human life is.

Let's not forget our connection to that.

That is our connection to life.

It’s our connection to our environment.

Our recognition of our connection to each other.

Life is fundamentally about being connected to your world.

    It’s about your presence.

It’s about the recognition that taking a long deep breath is pulling in oxygen that is part of you.

    It’s intersecting with you.

    It's turning into you.

    It's feeding you.

And then, you are sharing something out back into the environment.

    You are literally not separate.

Connecting with that and making a practice of it might be necessary in order to counter our logical thinking impulse.

So let's take a deep breath.

Intend to just feel together for the next minute, two minutes — however long we go.

I'm going to walk outside again.

You feel life wherever you are.

    Ready?

    Just feel life.

    Be.

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    So nice.

    —

    Just listening.

I’m going to reaffirm my commitment to taking a deep dive into presence daily.

To make sure that I'm feeding that sense that I need to be able to feel deeply into my world in order to hear and follow my purpose — my unique journey.

It's a primary commitment to me.

Let's just do another 30 seconds together.

And set that intention, if you want to.

Just come into presence with me.

    Listening to and feeling life.

    —

    —

    —

    That's perfect.

Now stay in the present moment as I say goodbye.

Listen as long as you want.

And have an incredible day or night — whatever it is for you.

  • Shift Into Your Muse

    Let's take long deep breath.

    —

    Your life is your muse.

That's the sentence that's been riding on my shoulder all day.

    Your life is your muse.

How is that true for you?

It's true for all of us.

Life gives you exactly what you need to take the next step along your journey.

    Your life is your muse.

What is your muse inspiring in you today?

    I really love that idea.

I think I love it because anytime things don't feel like they're going right inside you — when you're interpreting whatever's happening in your life in a way that makes you say, ‘This doesn't feel right. I don't like this.’ — if you’re able to remember, ‘your life is your muse’ in that moment, then you're able to shift into seeing your life for what it is: The miracle that provides you with the next step on your path.

Never said it was going to be easy, right?

But it is your next step.

And it is showing you exactly what step you need to take to make your journey.

Each time you remember that ‘your life is your muse’ it requires you to re-see the world as the miracle that it is — and to see yourself as a miracle connected to the whole.

So it soothes you to know that your life is your muse because it reminds you of what you're a part of.

Let's take a deep breath together.

    —

And drop into the present moment of our lives — our muses.

Listen to what your muse is saying to you now.

    —

    —

    Just listen for a while.

Hear those sounds you otherwise wouldn't listen to — the sounds you wouldn't consciously process.

Hear the beauty of life all around you.

    —

    And feel it.

    —

    Notice how it changes you.

Your muse changes you every time you engage by listening.

    —

Let's just listen for 10 or 20 seconds to what the muse has to share for now.

    —

    —

    Did you hear anything?

Did your muse share anything with you?

Or, are you just at peace and presence with the muse of life today?

    —

    —

    Nice.

    Nice little deep dive.

I'm going to set the intention to stay present for the rest of the day.

I invite you to do that too.

    And have a good one.

    I'll talk to you soon.

  • Shift Out Of Feeling Held Back

    Hey there. How are you?

Can you hear the beach waves crashing?

    Come on inside the hut.

And let's start with a small shift.

Let's set an intention to shift into a more ideal state of mind over the next few minutes.

    —

    You set the intention?

    Okay, good.

    —

And take a long deep breath.

    —

    And another.

    Take your time.

    —

    Okay.

Here's a Shift out of feeling held back.

To feel at peace and in harmony, as though you're following the path you're meant to follow for your life, there is only one way through.

And that is, coming to respect and love yourself so that your self-judgments don't get in the way of your relationship to life — your ability to love life, to love the world that's just waiting to love you back.

We've all done things that give us pause.

Things that truly require forgiveness of ourselves by ourselves.

And as a result, the job of forgiving yourself is a primary task of living.

We are here to come to love ourselves fully though.

And commit to doing our best moving — whatever that is.

If that means forgiving yourself now, forgive yourself.

It's a gift only you can give.

For a lot of people, self-judgment sits on top of everything so persistently that it's hard to even see.

    It becomes transparent to you.

So a good question to ask yourself to tease out where the judgment challenge is for you — to test whether you have a challenge with loving yourself at all even — is to ask, “What am I judging myself negatively for right now?”

What are you judging yourself negatively for?

Just sit with that question for a while.

And if it's a difficult question to answer, pause and sit a little longer.

We aren't going to change it all today.

So let's just try to identify one area for now.

    Take another long deep breath.

We're gonna release any self-judgment for today, and get on with loving life.

    That’s our intention.

When you get to the three dots below, I want you to look out into your environment and come intentionally into this moment — by focusing your attention wherever you are right now.

Become 100% focused in your environment for 10 seconds, while breathing deeply.

Observe your breath coming into your body, and out again.

    And just observe your environment.

    Ready?

    Go.

    …

    Good.

Now see if you can notice your mind quieting down, releasing all self-judgment — and all judgment of others.

    Just being here.

Present with each word you hear, or each word you might be reading.

    Feel your love for life.

    Feel it.

    Feel it.

Give that love the next 10 seconds of your life.

    Ready?

    Go.

Feel your love of life for 10 seconds.

    —

    Perfect.

Now feel that love for yourself.

Feel your intention to shift into a self-loving state of mind.

Experience life as one perfect moment during which you feel fully forgiving of yourself and loving of yourself.

And do it for the next 10 seconds.

    Just feel it.

    Go.

    —

    Great job.

That’s how you release yourself from feeling held back.

Are you feeling more open and less judgmental about yourself and others?

    I hope you do.

    Seize your day, my friend.

    Sean

  • Shift Into Your Weekend

    Prologue

When you have a few minutes, check out the new Shift website designed to make finding the Shift you want easier and more enjoyable.

In today’s Shift that follows, we’ll set an intention to come into presence each morning for three days in a row — to support a key weekend habit.

    Ready?

Let’s take a long deep breath.

    —

    And out.

    —

We do a live Weekend Recharge event every so often, beginning with this…

“Monday morning will be the third morning in a row that I begin my day fully connected to the present moment.”

You’ll set that intention during your Shift today.

“Monday morning will be the third morning in a row that I begin my day fully connected to the present moment.”

We commit to that intention during a brief Zoom talk I give on a Friday evening.

Then, for Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning everyone has this specific intention AND put a plan in place to come into presence at the beginning of each day.

We provide plenty of options for shifting into your present state of mind, of course.

You plan it ahead and practice for three mornings in a row.

By Monday morning you're feeling ready for your week.

And you've also created the beginning of a habit.

If you want to ever change something in your life, setting an intention for three days in a row — something very achievable, but also incredibly meaningful — is powerful.

Let's come into presence together now.

    Take another long deep breath.

All your attention focused right here with me.

And let's just listen together — and notice how your body feels as you listen to the world.

    —

    —

    —

    —

Do you feel your body relax into the world, relax as one with the world, as you just listen to life going by?

Listen to yourself as part of life going by.

    —

    —

    Good.

I cordially invite you to join us for a Weekend Recharge event sometime.

We’ll make the announcement when we're going to do a Weekend Recharge event in various ways.

Until then, set the intention yourself for coming into this weekend to make sure you make the most of the weekend — to optimally recharge for your week.

Often times that means taking a break from your primary life work for a little while so that you recharge.

Or, you can focus on a different aspect of your life work.

Your life’s work is best accomplished in presence, right?

So maybe shift your focus to a more creative aspect, or more exercise — however your life fits together best.

Commit to coming into presence at the beginning of the day for three days in a row to see how that feels for you.

Do that now, whatever day it is for you…

    —

And now let’s use the next couple minutes to be very intentional about fully recognizing ourselves as aspects of life.

There are many ways that you can recognize the miracle that you are — and that you are also aspect of.

    * You are hurlting through space and time at millions of miles per hour and you don't even perceive it, (1.3 million mph or 2.8 million mph, depending who you ask).

    * Your body is trillions of cells that function completely outside your control to enable you to be an experiencing entity in this miracle.

    * And you can choose how you perceive what you perceive to produce your experience of life.

For me, those ways of thinking about the miracle of life work well.

Take a minute to connect with your version of how you fit into the miracle of life — and notice how you’re an aspect of the miracle of life for the next minute.

Just listen and connect to your deepest truth to come into the present moment.

Then carry that intention of staying present through the day.

I'll remind you of that part again at the end.

Okay, ready to feel your miracle and come fully into presence?

    Go.

    —

    —

    —

    —

Bring that miracle into your body — into your awareness.

    —

    —

    —

    Great job.

Now keep that intention to stay present to your awareness of yourself as an aspect of life's miracle for the rest of your day.

Be present to every moment that you're in, every context that you're in.

    Be present for yourself.

    Be present for your people.

    Be present for your work.

    Be present for your weekend.

Let’s reset our intention to be fully present for three mornings in a row this weekend now.

    Intention set?

    —

    Enjoy your life!

All right, have a good one

  • Shift How You Judge Yourself

    Hello,

Let’s take a long deep breath and shift our state of mind.

    —

Remember, setting an intention to shift your state of mind is a huge part of bringing yourself into a preferred state of consciousness.

We tend to only set that intention after we recognize that we want to shift our state of mind.

That’s why building a habit of shifting regularly at a certain time every day, and also being intentional about using moments of emotional discomfort as cues to take a few minutes to make an intentional shift to your state of mind, are both great strategies.

You can apply those strategies to shift your state anytime.

Let's take one more deep breath.

And be even more intentional about setting the intention to make a positive shift to our state of mind together over the next few minutes.

    —

I want to talk to you about something to get started.

I've been playing with an idea and refining it in my own mind to express it as efficiently and concretely as possible.

Basically, the idea is a recognition that your satisfaction with your life — with yourself — is usually a consequence of how you are judging your life against some standard that you have for yourself in any given moment.

That standard likely shifts throughout the course of your day, and over time in general as well.

But knowing what you are measuring yourself against is an important step in being able to assess whether you are judging yourself fairly.

We could have a long discussion about the idea that completely letting go of self-judgment helps you come into the present moment.

After all, you're leaving behind your thoughts when you come fully into presence.

So if you aren’t able to notice your thoughts at all, it can be difficult to intentionally leave them behind to come fully into presence.

Presence involves separating the miracle that you are, and that life is, from any thoughts that you might be having in this moment.

The self-judgments that I'm referring to today — the ones we are going to be intentional about noticing and shifting — can often be observed as thoughts.

In reality though, negative self-judgments tend to be rooted even deeper in your body than surface thoughts that you might observe.

That’s part of the reason I'm bringing up this issue —

Your felt experience of your life arises out of your unconscious history and then into your thoughts and body each moment.

So coming into as much awareness as you can about how you’re judging yourself is key because the roots of self-judgement can be difficult to identify.

Particularly, if you're not feeling good about yourself (or your life) on a regular basis, coming into awareness of what it is that you're judging yourself negatively for, and why — and then making an assessment as to whether you actually want to be judging yourself on those domains — is very helpful.

Once you develop some awareness, whenever you are feeling negatively about yourself you can start to cue yourself to think about steps you can take to address that.

But first you need to know exactly how you are assessing how you're doing — i.e., how you are judging yourself.

    So let’s do that now.

    —

    Take a long deep breath.

    —

    Come into this moment again.

    —

Pro tip — Assessing whether you are in a state of mind that you want to be in by using a measurement of your presence, (i.e., how frequently you're in presence, and how deeply you are remaining in presence throughout your day), can be a useful way to ‘judge’ your personal progress along the continuum of living in a state of mind that you want to live in.

After all, being in a good state of mind usually syncs closely with judging yourself positively.

So, that’s one way to think about it.

You can definitely get even more concrete with your expectations of yourself than that.

But that strategy is a nice heuristic to start.

It’s an easy and immediate way to notice whether you're living the way that you want to live in any moment.

    Just notice each moment.

    What is the emotional state?

    What is the psychological state?

What is the state of mind that is flowing out of the way you're living?

So, think about making a habit of noticing your state as often as you can.

    —

Let's spend a minute answering today’s main question now.

Am I judging myself in a way that I want to?

Another form of that question is: Am I satisfied more or less with my life — and with my state of mind — overall?

If you find that you’re not satisfied, just observe what arises for you — about how you might shift the way you’re assessing yourself a bit.

It could be that how you are judging yourself is the root of the emotional pain you’re experiencing.

Pro tip — It tends to be the case that the distance between how you expect your life to be, and how you assess it to be, is a measurement of your life dissatisfaction.

    —

Let's come fully in this moment again — with all our attention.

    Look around your environment.

You've already laid the foundation of what you're going to allow your mind to process for the next minute, so just come into this moment completely.

Trust your unconscious mind to bubble forth something useful for you.

Notice the beauty in your environment — the light streaming through the window maybe.

Feel yourself comfortable in your seat.

Allow your arms and shoulders to relax.

And let's just listen together for whatever arises for the next minute.

And try not to judge it for a while.

    Just notice.

    Listen.

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    Perfect.

Did anything come up for you?

    —

One other suggestion is to notice how you think and feel when you wake up in the morning.

What is that first sequence of thoughts that you're having?

And what’s the emotional experience that's attached to those thoughts?

Noticing that information will give you some clue if you're having a hard time noticing how you're judging yourself, and whether you're judging yourself in a way that is ideal and fair.

    That's what you're looking for.

You want to have a standard for yourself that is clear to you AND ideal to you.

Your standard will change over time, but tracking it is helpful.

Otherwise, you may be judging yourself in a way that is not providing yourself with enough information to actually embody the life you are expecting of yourself.

That would be setting yourself up for failure.

Whereas, you actually want to set yourself up for success.

Let’s take 30 more seconds now.

First, intend for tomorrow morning when you wake up — before you even open your eyes — to notice what's that first sequence of thoughts for the day, and also notice how you feel.

That strategy might shed some light on how you're judging yourself.

    —

    Good.

Now, for the next 30 seconds intend to reset what you expect of yourself.

Let’s get a little bit more clarity on it before we come back into our outer life for the day.

Listen for your expectation of yourself now — for how you are judging yourself.

    Listen.

    —

    —

    —

    Okay, got something useful?

There are different domains that most of us implicitly judge ourselves on.

It's not an easy task just to summarize it into one thing.

    You have your personal life.

    You have your achievement expectations.

And there's a whole history that you're contending with.

There’s your social development that's going on.

And your ongoing journey through life — your inner journey

All of these are moving parts.

That's why I love the idea of noticing how your state of mind is throughout the day.

You can then use what you notice to calibrate yourself whenever you come out of your awareness of the perfect present moment and yourself as an aspect of that.

You can notice the depth of your feeling fully connected in your life.

And you can make a shift anytime you need one.

If you do that for a while, whenever you get pulled out of your preferred state of mind you'll start to notice what it was that pulled you out.

As you do that repeatedly, your life questions and personal judgements have a way of working themselves out.

    —

To finish up, let’s set our intention to be present for the rest of the day.

    —

To keep our states of mind fresh and clear and present.

    —

    Got your intention set?

    —

Come fully into the present moment now by bringing 100% of your attention into whatever you want to focus on next today.

    —

    Got it?

    Nice.

    —

    Have a great day.

    I'll talk to you soon.

    Sean

    P.S.

That was a lot to pack into one Shift, wasn’t it?

I hope it wasn’t too much to bite off.

Remember, none of us are perfect with being where we want to be emotionally all the time. So expecting perfection is not a fair expectation of yourself.

But, being strategic and intentional (and fair to yourself) definitely helps.

  • Shift Distraction

    Hi there,

Let’s take a long, deep breath.

    —

Why does meditation give me stress?

I hear that question frequently. It's a helpful one to understand if you're interested in making changes to your inner experience.

The basic answer is that most of us cope with our stress by distracting ourselves — by moving our mind and body to something different from the experience of stress that can arise into our mind and body when we sit still, and listen, and feel.

Meanwhile, meditation does the reverse of that.

Meditation asks you to sit, and feel, and experience the present moment fully — whatever arises.

    To take a deep breath…

    —

…and notice everything that's going on in the present moment — without judging it, or shifting away from it.

    —

That includes observing the feelings in your body — what you see, what you feel, what thoughts are flowing through your mind.

And maybe even noticing how those thoughts are connected to the emotions, such as the anxiety that might arise in your body during meditation.

It is only after you do that for a while, that the anxiety you may notice when you meditate — the anxiety that creates that desire to get up and move and distract yourself — will start to fade somewhat.

At that point, you will have taken massive control over your life experience because you’re becoming more able to operate from presence when you choose to, instead of from avoidance, or reacting with mental distraction.

One of the unfortunate aspects of meditation is having to go through a little discomfort in order to get more in touch with presence.

It would be nice if we didn't have to go through that, but we wouldn't do it if we didn't have a need to — if there were not some catalyst for us to go internal and come into this moment.

It’s true for most people, at least originally, our movement toward meditation is driven by a perceived need for increasing wellness or performance in our lives.

So let's take another deep breath.

And see if we can sit for one minute without reacting to the urge to be distracted — without taking our cue from that impulse to avoid the present moment.

Let’s just feel, and be, and know the present moment as perfect.

    There's nothing wrong right now.

    We're together.

    We're here.

We can take a deep breath and come into peace and presence together.

We can come into presence anytime we choose.

Let's sit together for one minute.

100% of your attention listening to life.

    Listening.

    Noticing.

    Feeling.

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    Alright, perfect.

    How was that for you?

    Did you notice any anxiety?

Were you able to come fully into presence to subsume that anxiety?

    I hope so.

    Keep it up.

The more you practice, the more able you will become to shift out of any distractions that arise in your inner world, that you’ll inevitably be confronted with — and return back to presence.

Pro Tip — “The faculty of voluntarily bringing back a wandering attention, over and over again, is the very root of judgment, character, and will. No one is compos sui [master of himself] if he have it not. An education which should improve this faculty would be the education par excellence.” William James, Psychology: Briefer Course, p. 424 (Harper Torchbooks, 1961)

All right, have a great day.

    Talk to you soon.

  • Shift Into Your Inner Life

"You learn how to suffer. If you know how to suffer, you suffer much, much less. And then you know how to make good use of suffering to create joy and happiness." — Thich Nhat Hanh

Today, let’s take a deep breath.

    —

Sometimes when you sink deeply into presence you see things, and questions arise from those things, and answers arise from those questions.

Being able to listen to yourself, to your own inner world — to your thoughts, to see your motivations — that is life watching itself.

    And it's a beautiful dance.

Because once you see that and consistently come into it, now you have a different relationship to life.

And that can change everything about what motivates you, about the importance of connecting to your own purpose — to listening deeply to yourself, and learning to follow what you hear by developing that sensitivity.

    So let's do that.

Let's take a deep dive together and develop our sensitivity.

I think I'm going to sit outside.

Let's take all our attention and just bring it into this moment.

However you feel like doing that today.

I'm going to listen to life while I feel my body, while I know I'm deeply connected to life.

And, I'm going to recede into life even more deeply as we take a deep dive today.

So I'll walk you through what I'm doing.

I'm going to close my eyes and put all my attention into my body feeling that tingling sensation that you can just pick up from those 30 trillion cells buzzing.

    —

    Buzzing with life.

    Buzzing as life.

Buzzing life into you and through you.

    So just feel that buzz.

Let's feel the buzz for a minute.

    —

    —

    —

    —

    —

    Perfect — feel your buzz.

    —

Are you staying fully intentional about feeling the buzz?

Bring your attention back if it faded away on you at all.

Let's go for a little longer.

    —

    —

    —

    Be open.

    Be honest.

    Be loving.

    Listen.

    That's what I hear.

    What do you hear?

    —

    Alright, perfect.

That was a nice deep dive.

I hope you are having a present day.

That will help us reset the intention to stay present for the rest of the day.

    Have a good one.
