In today’s episode I share my new Shine your light coaching cards. They are designed to help take you on a mindful journey of self-rediscovery so that you can shine your light and reach your best. In this episode I will share my intention behind the cards, who they are for and how you can use them. 

If you are stuck in a rut or know that something has to change in your life then these cards will help you do that. They take everything that I have learnt and experienced over the past 5 year (or more!) and give you a way to go on a similar journey in a way that works for you. 

Understanding who we are and what our purpose is, is a life journey. Everything happens for a reason and there is always something valuable to learn from every “challenging” experience. 

If you have been following me for a while you will also know that I am an advocate of mindfulness. This is an incredibly powerful skill that has to ability to improve so many areas of our lives. Learning ways to be more mindful each day provides us with the tools to slow down and be more present. When a challenge then presents itself we can counterbalance our automatic unconscious behaviours with considered options to respond. When we practice this regularly it is a real game changer.

The name Tansy comes from the tenacious wildflower that grows in the English countryside and much like her wildflower counterpart, Tansy lives and thrives in the countryside of Kent where Nature is a fundamental part of her life in work rest and play. 

After living in London for 25 years, Tansy moved to Kent and trained as a Certified Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) & Natural Mindfulness Guide and ICF Personal Growth Life Coach, utilising Nature as a tool for inspirational growth and wellbeing.  

We have a fascinating conversation on how when we slow down and become more aware of the nature around us we can look to nature for lessons about our own outlook in life. Through mindful and embodied journeys with Nature, Tansy guides groups and individuals along peaceful paths into Nature to discover a sense of peace, aliveness and belonging and remember who they are under the multiple layers and expectations of life in the Human world.   

Tansy believes deeply that connection to Mother Nature is a direct pathway of reconnection with your true nature. I love following the threads of people’s lives to see how they got to where they are today? Where does inspiration come from and what nudges us in a certain direction? 

This week’s Powerful Woman, Nadine André, has been a professional pianist and piano teacher for over 20 years and is now also a certified Romana's Pilates instructor.

When she was a child she was given the choice in which passion to follow. Her instinct said swimming, but her “nudge” said the piano. 

This powerful conversation goes to show how dedication and determination turn into professionalism and excellence and this is a theme that runs through Nadine’s life. 

Training at the Royal Northern College of Music and receiving an MMus and BMus (hons) in 2005 is no mean feat and Nadine was quick to see how musicians need to take better care of their bodies and invest in developing their function, movement and strength to meet with the demands of a professional musical career. 

It was Nadine’s enthusiasm for the mechanical function of the human body, that led her to an apprenticeship with Kinetic Pilates in London in 2019 and to becoming a fully comprehensive Romana's Pilates instructor. Nadine once again leaned on her dedication and determination to complete over 1500 hours of apprenticeship, continual assessment and rigorous examination in the full advanced system and a certification from Marjorie Oron level X in February 2022. 

But what I find fascinating in this conversation is that whichever modality we choose - and I believe there is the right one for each of us - when it comes down to it we can’t deny the interconnectedness of our minds and bodies. Our bodies and our mind hold memories and believes about what is and isn’t possible and it’s only when we are given the tools that work for each of us that we are able to grow in confidence and ability so we can achieve the previously seemingly impossible!

Nadine teaches the Pilates method at her home studio in Ewell, Surrey along with continuing to teach the piano, to promote long-term physical health and well-being to musicians and anyone who wants to feel better. A specialism in working with musicians will never be exclusive to anyone who wants to embrace this fantastic method. Pilates is for everyone and Nadine is as comfortable teaching complete beginners, including those who are infirm or have injury, to advanced Pilates practitioners and professional athletes.

Kalli, my powerful guest in this week’s conversation overcame imposter syndrome and took money out of the family mortgage to invest in the yoga training course of her dreams. Then just before Christmas, the company folded along with her money and her plan to become a yoga teacher. 

But everything happens for a reason and an opportunity to train was literally handed to her… 

13 years ago Kalli Pasqualucci started her yoga journey, and has since wanted to be a yoga teacher. Like many of us she held the belief that she wasn’t “good enough” and didn’t “have the right look” to be one. But this hasn’t stopped her. In 2022 she started her training and hasn't looked back. 

During the pandemic, yoga, breathwork and meditation really helped Kalli with her anxiety and to relax. She is now determined to share what she has learnt and to provide “time out” for busy people - always ensuring that there is a balance between stretching and strengthening, and that classes end with a peaceful relaxation. In this conversation Kalli describes the joy in seeing her clients walk out of her class having let go of the tension they came in with. 

It’s not going to stop with yoga classes, Kalli intends to train in other modalities including meditation and sound therapy. 

Kalli’s story goes to show that when we have a true passion for something nothing gets in our way. We can all choose to take a different path and give back to the world in a way that lights us and the world up.

Does it take guts? Is it stupidity? Or is it simply a self-awareness and curiosity and a strong desire to understand this strange world that we live in?

In this week’s Powerful Conversation I am joined by Adelina Chalmers, nominee on Computer Weekly’s Most Influencing Women in IT list in 2021 and won her place in the top 50 Most Influential Women in Tech in 2022. 

This is a fun, yet deep conversation where we talk about the labels we give ourselves… and others give us. Adelina talks about despite a lifetime of being called fat this is not a label that has stopped her from achieving incredible strides in her life and business. 

Adelina talks about how rather than responding to being called stupid with a reaction of outrage that most of us may feel, she explored it with curiosity, safe in the knowledge that she knows she is smart. 

Adelina shares how she learns through experimentation and recounts the social experiment that she did testing how the ways she approached poorly parked vehicles on station forecourts about their parking influence the way they responded to her questioning. This is way braver than I can imagine myself being (maybe I’m not giving myself enough credit there!) - but it goes to show that there are ways of “confronting” people with compassion and kindness that will see results - just like there are those that are simply inconsiderate (for whatever reason that may be!)

It’s not surprising that in Adelina’s business, The Geek Whisperer®, she cuts straight to the heart of the matter when advising Chief Technology Officers in tech companies and goes down in the trenches with them. She focuses entirely on the most pressing issues in the business and usually adds a minimum of $1million worth of value to each company with which she works. She has been working since 2011 with science and technology companies from 50 to 110,000 staff on communication, leadership and strategic challenges. She has worked with scientists and engineers from Software Engineer to CEO/CSO/CTO who work for: Atos, Fujitsu, ARM, Amazon, Apple, Deloitte, Compare the Market, Microsoft and hundreds of scale-ups.

I’ve been friends with Sophie since I was around 8 - on and off. We reconnected a year or so ago and have some amazing walks and talks in my local woods! I was delighted when Sophie agreed to join me as a guest in my Powerful Conversations with Powerful Women. 

Sophie is a trauma-informed coach, consultant, trainer and speaker helping people find their most authentic, agile, emotionally and psychologically resilient selves.

Her work is based on her lived experience of navigating a culture and career in the Army where, at the time, about 4% of employees were female. In 2007 when deployed to Afghanistan as an Army officer, she experienced a range of traumatic events including bullying and assault. Her experience was exasperated by a leadership that looked the other way, a toxic culture, a system ill-equipped to support her and her own lack of psychological tools to help her process the injustice and emotional fall-out of what had happened. This ultimately led to what was founded in military research as moral injury and this subsequently led to PTSD.  

Sophie’s leveraged her experience with qualifications including, a MSc in Psychology, ICF coaching qualifications and years of training experience. She helps leaders and organisations become more trauma-informed, delivers workshops and talks that help raise awareness of moral injury or reduce the stigma around experiencing trauma and coached people faced with their own traumatic experiences to find better emotional relationships with themselves. 

In this truly powerful , authentic conversation Sophie and I talk about the different types of trauma and the relationship between our ability to feel and express our emotions and drama. Sophie shares a surprising and alarming dictionary definition of feminine / effeminate and we talk the different ways we can connect with emotions and feel the imprint of emotions as sensations in our bodies.

I first met Melody Jane a decade or so ago at a local women’s networking event when we were both interior designers. Fast forward to today and our paths have crossed again. And by the strangest of coincidences we both now find ourselves on a path of coaching, mentoring and spirituality.

Melody Jane is full of energy. She literally fills the room, but with warmth and love.
