September 5th, 1856, the Arabia was making a routine trip up the Missouri river. After hitting a submerged portion of a tree, the ship sank below the mud of the river within minutes, taking all of its cargo with it. 150 years later a crew unearthed her cargo, and her secrets.

February 9th, 2001, the Ehime Maru set out from Honolulu on an educational fishing expedition, a few miles away the USS Greeneville set out from Pearl Harbor on a trip to impress investors. February 21st 1944, as the sun set on the invasion of Iwo Jima, a squadron of Japanese pilots approached on the horizon. By morning over 40 planes were lost, and the last US aircraft carrier to be sunk by enemy action lay at the bottom of the sea.

Early in the morning on April 16, 2014 a ferry carrying 476 passengers from Incheon to Jeju attempted a tight turn and capsized. The crew abandoned the vessel and the passengers, and within hours the sea had claimed over 300 lives.

In the fall of 1841, 135 enslaved people were loaded onto a boat bound for the slave markets of New Orleans. The boat would never reach its destination, but rather its passengers would take control of the ship and reach the Bahamas and freedom.
