We’ve all seen it. Someone putting up that mandatory selfie with an elephant after their “once in a lifetime trip” around South East Asia. 

Maybe you thought to yourself, “That’s as basic as it gets”, or “Thread lightly around that trunk fu**face, you might get squished”. But you probably also wondered… 

What’s it like to stand so close to the biggest mammal on the planet? 

This week, lucky to be in Thailand, we wanted to tick this activity off our “Basic Bitch Travel Checklist” and visit an Elephant Sanctuary. 

But this one (Elephant Nature Park, Chiang Mai) is a little different. It prides itself on being one of the most ethical around. That means no riding, no touching, no feeding, no washing. Just looking.

Isn’t that basically what a zoo is? 

In this episode, expect to hear all about our research and general sh*te talk about elephant sanctuaries. Essentially covering, why would anyone bother with them. 

You’ll also hear our game of the week - “Uptown Trunk”.

If you’ve heard part 1, you know all about the benefits and what to expect from an Indian Head Massage. This week we planned to see if the reality lined up with those expectations.    

So, we found an Ayurveda Clinic (if you’re not sure what that is, think, Indian Alternative Medicine) thinking “now these lads will know their sh*t”, but it actually ended up being… kind of grim? 

Maybe a regular massage place would have been different? Less horror movie vibes, perhaps? Who knows. 

Anyway, the plan was to give a verdict on whether you should bother with Indian head massages and that’s exactly what was achieved. So listen in!

Time for another scalp slapping episode of “Should I Bother?”. This week - Indian Head Massages!

Diving into this one with tension-ridden temples, we did expect some relaxation involved, but hair growth?? That claim's a load of bollo*ks. Surely?

As the second topic of our new format, this episode is Part 1 where we do our usual bit of research - on the ancient techniques and modern day claims - to see if it’s worth the bother.

Is it just a regular old rub-down, or can it induce a Nirvana-inspired noggin? Let’s see. We’ll do our best to separate the follicle from the folly.

Ear cleaning is one of those things we do, like popping spots - it’s oddly satisfying and something you’re not supposed to do, but most of us say, “f**k it” and do it anyway.

Maybe you’ve seen this trend on TikTok a while back or heard about its popularity in parts of Asia? At the time of recording this in Malaysia, there’s literally an Ear Cleaning Shop across the road, so we did the usual and wondered, “is this something you should bother with??”

So that’s what we aim to figure out! 

Also… an ear cleaning shop? Only considering now how weird that actually is. At least we’ll see what “professionally trained” ear cleaners are like. Assuming they don’t just pull out a few Q-Tips? 

Hmmm.. what’s a weird way to finish this episode description? .. Maybe, “Listen in to this ear-tickling episode and prepare to have your eardrums blown!”

After 6 whole weeks, we’re back with Part 2 to discuss how our attempt at qualifying for our first ever CrossFit competition (the Malaga Throwdown 2023) actually went.

Underestimating how competitive this specific competition would be, we realised very late on that we’d both be competing against at least 90 others in both the male and female scaled category. Wod da fook..

With only the top 16 making it through, how do you think we got on?

Manifesting: The unproven practice of turning our dreams into reality by just “asking the universe” to make it so. Pretty much the modern-day equivalent of rubbing a magic lamp.

Have you ever been curious about what manifesting is? Or wondered how it works? Maybe you’ve put a lot of faith in the vision board you spent hours creating, or positive affirmations that will lead to a life of abundance?

We definitely have. So for this episode, we’re exploring the instagram-fueled illusion and answering all of those burning questions.

Sleep hygiene - the practice of creating good sleep habits and environments to improve your quality of sleep. Sounds simple enough.

But is it… REALLY?!? Dun dun DUUUUNN!! (kind of hard to write that sound effect, but hopefully you get what we’re going for). 

We’ve probably all heard of the various ways to get better sleep. No technology before bed, avoid caffeine, don’t eat too much.. blah blah, fuc*ing blah. What makes practicing sleep hygiene so hard is because those are the exact things we all want to binge in the evening after a long hard day of work! 

If you really want good sleep hygiene, you need to say goodbye to that precious “Friday night treat” - eating way too much chinese, with a glass of wine, while you stay up later than normal watching some shi*e movie.

So that begs the question. How realistic is this? And if you do achieve it, does it have that big of an impact on how you feel, physically and mentally?

Ultimately, is it something you should bother doing?? We’re gonna try it out and see.

So don’t give up on that Friday night chinese just yet. Instead, grab your headphones, throw on a sleep mask, take a big whiff of some lavender and let’s get to the bottom of this.
