  • Could a Devastating Earthquake Happen in Missouri? Expert Explains After Venezuela Disaster (LISTEN)

Two massive earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela just 39 seconds apart, causing widespread destruction, collapsing buildings, and triggering a major rescue effort. Seismologists describe it as a rare "seismic doublet," one of the most powerful earthquake sequences to hit the country in more than a century.

While Missouri recently experienced a much smaller 2.0 earthquake in the southeastern part of the state, it serves as a reminder that earthquakes aren't just a West Coast concern. So what can these events teach us about earthquake risks here in the Show-Me State? Melissa Friel and Paola Vargas from SEMA join Show Me Today.
