In this episode, I dive into what it really means to build a lasting family legacy and how to apply value creation to the family. For too long, the idea of legacy has been tied solely to money, but I believe there’s so much more to it. I want to introduce you to a more holistic way of thinking about legacy—one that includes material wealth but also emotional and spiritual value.
I’ll share my approach to creating a family culture where value creation is at the core. It’s about more than just raising kids; it’s about empowering them to discover their strengths and setting them up for a fulfilling life. We’ll talk about practical strategies like budgeting in a way that aligns with your family’s goals, cultivating positive emotional energy in the home, and setting goals that mean something to everyone in your family.
I’ll also draw from my personal experiences and insights from the "Dinner Table" community, where families are coming together to redefine what it means to connect and grow together. Whether it’s fostering better communication, nurturing each family member’s unique gifts, or aligning on a shared vision for the future, we’ll cover it all.
This is about building a legacy that lasts, not just financially but in every aspect of life—emotional, spiritual, and relational. Join me as we explore how to build a legacy that truly endures for generations.

Want to know how a business can scale into the billions? In this episode, we have an incredible conversation with Brian Smith, the legendary founder of Ugg, who transformed a niche product into a global phenomenon worth $2 Billion dollars. Brian takes us through his incredible journey, from struggling with just 28 pairs in sales to building an iconic brand recognized worldwide.

Welcome to another episode of Show Your Value with Lee Benson. In this episode, I'm joined by the dynamic Josh Linkner, a visionary in the world of creativity and innovation. He’s spent decades studying human creativity and is passionate about empowering others to become everyday innovators.
About Josh: Josh Linkner is a five-time tech entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and keynote speaker. He’s the author of several bestsellers, including Big Little Breakthroughs: How Small, Everyday Innovations Drive Oversized Results. I had the privilege of sitting down with Jan Rutherford, the founder of Self-Reliant Leadership and a former Green Beret, to explore the deep connection between self-reliance, leadership, and personal fulfillment. Jan’s journey from a 17-year-old entering Special Forces to becoming a seasoned business executive is a testament to the transformative power of overcoming adversity. There are some big lessons in the conversation that will add a lot of value to your life, be it personal or business.
What We Talk About:
- Self-Reliance is the Foundation of Leadership: One of the most impactful insights Jan shared is that leadership truly starts with self-reliance. As he put it, “If you're not squared away if you're not self-reliant, you are reliant on other people. And I always say that if you can't lead yourself, you can't lead others, you can't lead organizations.”
- Finding Purpose and Meaning is Essential: Jan emphasized the responsibility leaders have to help others find purpose in their work and discover it for themselves. Leaders and CEOs must help their teams and those around them find purpose and meaning in what they do.
- Adversity Builds Character and Resilience: Through our discussion, it became clear that struggles and challenges are not only unavoidable but essential in shaping effective leaders. Adversity and discipline shape us, and the more shaped we are, the more value we can add to the world.
This conversation with Jan will challenge your views on leadership and inspire you to create more value in every aspect of your life. Ready to become a leader people look up to? Then you won’t want to miss this episode!

I want to talk about performance reviews in this episode, but not the traditional kind you're probably used to. I'm talking about a concept I call "performance snapshots," which I believe is a far superior approach.
Traditional performance reviews often leave both leaders and team members frustrated and misaligned. The process can be cumbersome, unclear, and doesn't always lead to meaningful improvements. With performance snapshots, we flip the script. Here's how:
- Clarity and Consistency: Performance snapshots ensure everyone knows what's expected of them 100% of the time. No more surprises during reviews.
- Three Core Goals: Each snapshot focuses on three main areas:
- Team-Based Feedback: The process involves input from the entire team, not just the manager. This holistic view ensures all strengths and areas for improvement are recognized and addressed.
- Continuous Improvement: Performance snapshots encourage ongoing dialogue and adjustment, rather than waiting for bi-annual or annual reviews.
In this session, I break down the steps to implement performance snapshots, the benefits for both leaders and team members, and real-world examples of how this approach has transformed organizations. Let's make performance reviews something to look forward to, driving value creation and team alignment like never before.
