Since it began five years ago the Istanbul Photo awards have seen more than one hundred thousand images come across its desk. The contest open to international photographers focuses on news and sports. This year, winners announced on Thursday included everything from migrants crossing into Mexico to a surfer riding a big wave in Portugal.

And they do it by borrowing the voices of some of the UK's best-known names including supermodel Kate Moss and actor Pam Ferris. Famous for his coveted Stradivarius violins which can fetch up to 16 million dollars the seventeenth-century luthier Antonio Stradivari set a standard for handcrafted stringed instruments that many local artisans continue to emulate to this day.

The American artist recently partnered with Adidas the first visual artist to do so and he released his revolutionary carbon four D printed shoe. Arsham sat down with Showcase's Aadel Haleem in Doha ahead of last month's opening of the National Museum of Qatar to discuss FutureCraft 4D and blending art with architecture.

Ernest Hemingway once said, "There is no friend as loyal as a book" while Roald Dahl believed that, if a person was going to get anywhere in life, they have to read a lot of books. And so, more than two decades ago, UNESCO declared April the 23rd 'World Book Day'. The idea behind that was to promote reading and literacy around the world.
