We all know about Apple TV, the streaming television box you can rent and buy movies on from your living room. So what was the big deal with the tech giant's CEO announcing Apple TV Plus this week? On Tuesday the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Stephen Spielberg took to the stage with Tim Cook, to introduce the new streaming service, offering original content ready to rival Netflix and Hulu. Launching in May, you'll have all that fresh content at your fingertips through the Apple TV app on iOS, Mac, and wherever else you get your TV. That's not all though - some big names are backing it including Steve Carrell, Reese Witherspoon and Jason Momoa.
When the Matrix hit screens twenty years ago it took audiences by storm. Not only did it turn Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss into globally recognized superstars, but it also redefined what a sci-fi-action film could be. Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida is quite possibly one of the most famous artists… you've never heard of. A Spanish master lauded for his incredible skill at portraying light and colour, he even has a museum named after him. And yet, outside his native Spain, his name is not often heard. That's all about to change, as London's prestigious National Gallery stages the first 'major retrospective' of his work in more than 100 years. And Miranda Atty was at the opening.
These are the stories we could call an arts-oriented tale of two cities. The first, Art Dubai, one of the few international art fairs showcasing work from Ethiopia to Beijing. The other, the Sharjah Biennial, considered a significant influence when it comes to representing art from across the region. Twin events, in neighbouring cities, both uniting the global art community.
He describes his music as "militant, post-classical electronica". Australian producer-composer Ben Frost recently unleashed those sounds in front of an eager Istanbul crowd as part of Sonar 2019 - a festival dedicated to uniting music and technology. Showcase's Aadel Haleem got a chance to sit down with Frost to talk about his music... as well as the importance of giving his audience a "360-degree experience."
