Portuguese brothers José and Antonio Lello wanted to create a temple as an ode to the arts. So in 1906 they founded Lello Bookstore, considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Not least - because of a magnificent red staircase in the middle of the shop. But it's more than just an architectural gem, it's also become a magnet for attracting fans of a certain bespeckled young wizard.

As the 21st century evolves and shifts, so does the global arts scene, which is something that can easily be seen on the banks of the Bosphorus. To reflect this, the 'Contemporary Istanbul: Art, Culture and Education Foundation' is holding a series of workshops, exhibitions and panels on how to fuel innovation and creativity through culture and understanding.

After ten days, and 343 flicks, Canada's biggest film marathon has come to an end. The movies were screened, choices were made, and the awards handed out. And true to Toronto International Film Festival tradition, it seems the big the winners were once again a big surprise.

The latest curator to collaborate with Istanbul's SALT Beyoglu art space is Annie Fletcher - and her interests lie in the future. For 'The Universe Flickers' exhibition, she's brought together four artists using a variety of mediums - everything from murals to opera. Despite that disparity, the works all have one thing in common - tackling the unknown.

"A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men." Those wise and witty words are from author Roald Dahl. The man who brought us 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'James and the Giant Peach' and 'The Twits' was born nearly 100 years ago on the 13th of September. It's a day now known as Roald Dahl Day and celebrated in a myriad of ways the world over. And while the spy-turned-writer's words have long mesmerized readers of all ages, his fantastical tales have also been adapted for the screen.

To speak about his life and legacy, Showcase is joined by Donald Sturrock is Roald Dahl's official biographer.
