  • Why Create Annual Goals? | #DailyDHI_28

Create annual goals. Create a "Vision Board" for both personal and professional growth and aspirations.

Take your life to where you'd like it to go. Ask yourself, what would you like to add to your life and what do you wish to get rid of? Goals provide direction and meaning. It is like being on a boat that has a destination and a time-bound plan rather than on a rudderless, idle boat.

Goals define the purpose and infuse energy, vitality, and determination to achieve a task. The most important part of achieving a goal is celebrating the accomplishment... so don’t forget to go out there and party.

  • Theory of Abundance | #DailyDHI_14

There is strength in simplicity. The best things in life are simple. Air, water, earth, fire, and space are the five elements that are abundantly available. These five elements remind us to believe in the Theory of Abundance. I believe that the universe has sufficient wealth to realize everyone’s dreams and potential. Just tap into this abundance and let the universe provide for you.

  • Exercise, Brain Function & Dementia | #MPS

How exercise improves your brain function and lowers the risk of Dementia.

Did you know that exercise not only improves your brain function but also potentially lowers the risk of dementia?

Perhaps you have a general idea of how exercise affects your health, weight, and energy levels. But did you know how it impacts the brain? Before we delve into the neurological benefits of exercise, let us take a look at some facts. According to the world health organization (2020), more than 56.2% of the world's population lives in urban areas today. It’s a known fact that industrialization prompted significant technological innovations such as trains, automobiles, and airplanes, which made our lives easier. With the automation of industry came a more sedentary urban lifestyle, as well as an increase in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Many people in today’s time can earn a decent living right from their couch which involves little or no physical effort. This includes paying bills, purchasing clothing, buying groceries, and catching up with friends.

Research says that our hunter-gatherer ancestors 10,000 years ago, walked at least 10-20 kilometers every day. That is our genetic programming, so we have to understand that we are not genetically programmed to be sedentary. And if we do lead a sedentary life, our brains pay a high price, both in the short and long term. As per WHO more than 55 million people live with dementia worldwide and as the proportion of older people in the population is increasing in nearly every country, this number is expected to rise to 78 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050. Although dementia affects the older population it is not limited to only the elderly.

So, let us understand the neurological benefits that come from physical activity.

Physical activity improves cardiovascular health, the more efficient your heart is in pumping blood to your brain, the better it functions. Mind-body exercises like Yoga can increase new brain cell production. Exercise also reduces stress, which is a known disruptor of brain cell regeneration. To keep your heart and brain functioning well, aim for 150 minutes of light exercise every week, try mentally stimulating activities you enjoy like crossword or Sudoku, and last but not the least, learn a new skill…

Remember there is no cure for dementia. If a little effort on a daily basis can keep our grey cells alive and kicking, it’s worth it!!

  • Is Gluten Good or Bad for Health? | #MPS

Don’t we hear a lot about gluten and gluten-free diets these days? Is gluten bad for your health? Should we stop eating products with gluten? Let us look at some gluten facts and dispel a few doubts...

Let me explain what gluten is. #Gluten is a protein found in a variety of grains such as wheat, barley, and rye. It can be found in bread, pasta, pizza, and cereal. It acts as a binder, holding food together and adding a "stretchy" quality. Many studies have found that eating whole grains improves your health. Gluten may also act as a prebiotic, feeding our bodies' "good" bacteria. Arabinoxylan oligosaccharide is a prebiotic carbohydrate derived from wheat bran that has been shown to boost healthy bacterial health in the human gut. So, who should avoid gluten? #Celiacdisease patients have an immune reaction to gluten. When they consume gluten-containing foods, they develop inflammation and damage in their intestinal tracts and other parts of the body. According to current estimates, up to 1% of the population has this condition. If you do have celiac disease, you must follow a gluten-free diet to eliminate the inflammation and symptoms. Then there are those who are gluten-intolerant. Their celiac disease tests are negative (normal), but whenever they eat gluten-containing food, they experience symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, or crampy abdominal pain. Wheat allergy is one of the causes, which can be diagnosed through testing.

Avoiding gluten makes sense only for people who have celiac disease or a wheat allergy. For everyone else, stop worrying about gluten and enjoy your bread, pasta, pizza, and other wheat products. #MPS #SHROFFism_4_U
