The WNBA held its draft last night (sans any actual people), and with the NFL Draft coming up next week, Meredith talks through the different draft formats that allow college athletes to get to the pros in their respective sports. Of course, given different sports seasons, cultures, league sizes and regulations, what those drafts look like in practice turn out to be very different from one another. 

Plus, this year, the draft process looks very different for many sports as leagues work to manage the effects of COVID-19. Perhaps the draft most severely altered as a result is Major League Baseball’s draft - which is moving from 40 rounds to as few as five.

This week, SB Nation is looking back at some of the best teams to never win a championship. As you can imagine, quite a few Ohio State teams come to mind. But, at risk of a two hour podcast, we stick to the infamous 2015 Ohio State Buckeyes team. On Thursday, April 16, 2020, ESPN will be reairing the iconic 2016 Ohio State-M*ch*g*n Game since there are no real sports currently going on for them to televise. To break down what has become known as "The Spot Game," our Matt Tamanini spoke with LGHL's Managing Editor Tia Johnston and Columbus sports reporting legend Lori Schmidt to get their unique perspectives on this all-time great contest.

The 2020-21 college football season has been the talk of the town as of late, in terms of... is there going to even be one? Most CFB coaches have been asked this very question during their media conference calls, and Tia and Meredith discuss the most surprising (and not-so-surprising) answers from a few said coaches. On today’s show, Meredith attempts to answer the question of what the next NCAA sanctioned sport will be. She also explores the Committee on Women’s Athletics, which focuses on identifying emerging sports for women. This committee played a key role in adding women’s rowing to the list of NCAA-sanctioned sports — a sport in which Ohio State’s program has three titles. The group also influenced the addition of women’s ice hockey to the NCAA ranks, with the Buckeyes benefiting once again, having earned a conference championship this season. 

The main players on the current list of emerging sports for women include rugby, equestrian and triathlon. However, there are other sports, like women’s wrestling, that are also up for consideration.

Tia and Meredith start the show by discussing the 2020 summer Olympics getting postponed, along with other sporting events cancellations that hit close to home for them. They also chat about why its actually a good thing that athletes and celebs are getting tested and announcing whether or not they have symptoms.

On the second half of the show, they discuss the free agency, specifically Malcolm Jenkins and how Eagles fans are coping to his move to the Buckeye-filled Saints. They then dig into the lack of recognition for some of the winningest teams in the Big Ten who happen to be women's sports, and how women's tennis, the U.S. Women's National Team, and UConn women's basketball are helping to pave the way for women athletes on all levels.

On the show today, with no Ohio State sports currently in action, Meredith goes through the winningest sports programs for each Big Ten school. Some of these programs, like Dan Gable’s wrestling dynasty at Iowa, are obvious, while others, like Penn State’s most successful team, are much, much less so. Unfortunately, the discussion also lands Ohio State on the wrong side of its rivalry with Michigan. Good thing the Buckeyes owned the football field and the hardcourt this year. 

Also something of a downer, just three of these 14 winningest programs happened to be women’s sports, including Minnesota ice hockey and Northwestern and Maryland lacrosse — even though teams like Minnesota have been truly dominant, winning almost a third of the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Championships ever played,

The 2020 Summer Olympics will begin on Friday, July 24, despite the world's fear of the Coronavirus. Tia and Meredith discuss their thoughts on the Olympics continuing as planned, other events being cancelled because of the virus, and what the Tokyo organizers are doing now to prepare for it.

They also announce an exciting update and what the future holds for Land-Grant Holy Land.
