Welcome to the Simply Straight Talk Show with your host Reggie Maddox. Today’s topic is guaranteed to generate some conversation regarding the controversial behavior of some individuals.
So what does “toxic masculinity,” mean? Researchers have defined it, in part, as a set of behaviors and beliefs that include the following:
- Suppressing emotions or masking distress
- Maintaining an appearance of hardness
- Violence as a use/threat of power
Basically, Toxic masculinity is what some people believe comes from teaching boys/men that they can’t express emotion openly; that they have to be “tough all the time”; that anything other than that makes them “feminine” or weak.
On the other hand, I disagree with the use of the term toxic masculinity as it primarily focuses on men. In this episode I want to discuss not only toxic masculinity but the term” man box”. I find it interesting that certain groups have stated that this is not about men only but there is not movement to address or create a venue to address concerns that could determine behavior that represents “Toxic Feminism”. So, let’s get into this conversation on how both sides can correct immoral behavior on both sides.
