    Narrator: Tim Campbell
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 5 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
War is uncomfortable for Christians, and worldwide war is unfamiliar for today's generations. Jim Downing reflects on his illustrious military career, including his experience during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, to show how we can be people of faith during troubled times.
The natural human impulse is to run from attack. Jim Downing - along with countless other soldiers and sailors at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 - ran toward it, fighting to rescue his fellow navy men, to protect loved ones and civilians on the island, and to find the redemptive path forward from a devastating war.
We are protected from war these days, but there was a time when war was very present in our lives, and in The Other Side of Infamy we learn from a veteran of Pearl Harbor and World War II what it means to follow Jesus into and through every danger, toil, and snare.

    A faithful journey
Not too many biographies detail such a long period of service in God's kingdom. While seeing a good deal of history through Jim's eyes, the best part is having an inside track to listen in as God does amazing things through one fully committed disciple. An encouraging story for anyone wondering if it is worth it all.

Subtitle: A Teacher's Odyssey to Grow Healthy Minds and Schools

    Narrator: Kevin T. Collins
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 31 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-28-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
In The Power of a Plant, globally acclaimed teacher and self-proclaimed CEO (Chief Eternal Optimist) Stephen Ritz shows you how, in one of the nation's poorest communities, his students thrive in school and in life by growing, cooking, eating, and sharing the bounty of their green classroom.
What if we taught students that they have as much potential as a seed? That in the right conditions, they can grow into something great?
These are the questions that Stephen Ritz - who became a teacher more than 30 years ago - sought to answer in 2004 in a South Bronx high school plagued by rampant crime and a dismal graduation rate. After what can only be defined as a cosmic experience when a flower broke up a fight in his classroom, he saw a way to start tackling his school's problems: plants. He flipped his curriculum to integrate gardening as an entry point for all learning and inadvertently created an international phenomenon. As Ritz likes to say, "Fifty thousand pounds of vegetables later, my favorite crop is organically grown citizens who are growing and eating themselves into good health and amazing opportunities."
The Power of a Plant tells the story of a green teacher from the Bronx who let one idea germinate into a movement and changed his students' lives by learning alongside them. Since greening his curriculum, Ritz has seen near-perfect attendance and graduation rates, dramatically increased passing rates on state exams, and behavioral incidents slashed in half. In the poorest congressional district in America, he has helped create 2,200 local jobs and built farms and gardens while changing landscapes and mindsets for residents, students, and colleagues. Along the way, Ritz lost more than 100 pounds by eating the food that he and his students grow in school. The Power of a Plant is his story of hope, resilience, regeneration, and optimism.

I just got the book yesterday and I'm so glad I did
I just got the book yesterday and I'm so glad I did!! The only thing more inspiring than Steve's story is to see him in person. Ritz has passion and enthusiasm that is so infectious. You can't help but like the guy. His story- and the work he does - needs to be shared with anyone who works with kids. This is a must read for educators!!!
Read This Book Before You Die
I'm only one hundred pages into this journey and I already love this guy. Stephen Ritz reminds me of the small handful of teachers who stood out as particularly engaged in the individual growth and lives of their students. He is the teacher I would want to be if I had taken that path. He is one of those people who whether he intends to or not, points to the Creator as well as the creation. Like the glory of stars in the night sky, a mountain panorama, or rolling ocean waves pounding the coast, Stephen Ritz's passion, creativity, love and his personal preservation of the wonder of childhood is one of those times when God tips his hand. This is the book you will want to buy in bulk and gift to young minds contemplating a career in education, tired teachers in the middle of a stalled career, or to anyone who may be inspired or inspire-able to make a difference.

    Publisher's Summary:
On August 28, 1997, just as she was starting her junior year of college at the University of Kentucky, Holly Dunn and her boyfriend, Chris Maier, were walking along railroad tracks on their way home from a party when they were attacked by notorious serial killer Angel Maturino Resendiz, a.k.a. The Railroad Killer.
After her boyfriend is beaten to death in front of her, Holly is stabbed, raped, and left for dead. In this memoir of survival and healing from a horrific true crime, Holly recounts how she lived through the vicious assault, helped bring her assailant to justice, and ultimately found meaning and purpose through service to victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes, working as a motivational speaker and activist and founding Holly's House, a safe and nurturing space in her hometown of Evansville, Indiana.

Holly knew she had to do something for all victims
In college without a care in the world and hanging out with her boyfriend by the railroad tracks. Seems innocent enough. Unfortunately, Holly and her boyfriend, Chris were attacked and tortured by the rail road killer. Holly survives and is the only living witness after multiple murders occur across state lines. Holly tells her story from a place of Survivor's guilt while continuing to keep Chris's memory alive. It's a delicate balance many of us will never understand. Her faith in God is what truly amazes me the most. Thankfully, she had a lot of support and prayer helped her get through many tough nights. When she was finally able to testify against the man that tortured her and killed her boyfriend, all she wanted him to know was that he did not kill her. She wanted him to know she went on to graduate college. This is a sincere story of faith, resilience, trauma, and dreams lived. Holly is an AMAZING woman that took her tragedy and turned it into triumph to help other victims. Outstanding book about a woman that refused to stop living when the most tramatic incident in her life almost killed her.

    Publisher's Summary:
A heart-wrenching true story of one young man's journey into, through, and out of the Holocaust.
Some people have a knack for survival, for getting out of jams. Twelve-year-old David Karmi found himself face to face with the ultimate test. With his homeland consumed by fear, David entered a world of human slaughter. Whole towns were vaporized. Cities obliterated in firestorms. More than 50 million people died - 12 million either gassed, shot, hanged, worked to death, or subjected to biological experiments. David survived.
Separated from his parents and siblings, David Karmi was hurled into a nightmare of death camps, forced marches, sickness, violence, and depravity. On his own, through the tortuous months that followed, he endured. He is a survivor of Auschwitz, Dachau, and the Warsaw Ghetto. He endured forced marches, starvation, and even persecution after the Allies freed him from the camps. This is a story of strength, courage, some luck - and an amazing man, told in his own words. It is the biography of a survivor.

An Astonishing Tale of Bravery & Survival
I have read at least 50 memoirs on the Holocaust/Shoah, but rarely do you find one as raw, honest, heartbreaking and inspiring as this one. A definite must read!
Great book written in a straightforward way.
I liked the quick moving, easy to understand and readability of how the Jews were treated during World War 2. This was truly written from David Mark's heart.

This is a well written story of survival during the holocaust. This is a really unique story. It's about choices you you make and how they can affect your life. Sometimes you have to think outside the box and go against the popular opinion. An amazing story of how the holocaust wrecked a perfectly good family. Excellent story. I give it 4 out of five becasue the writing coujld have been better. But it is still a story worth reading..
Interesting read, as the story continues on about his life after the war...
I enjoyed the book as it covered his entire life. I've read many holocaust survior stories, but this was the first one I've come across that tells the story of what happened in depth after the war was over and the struggle to get to Palestine, I never knew the conflict with England over it. Overall a good read, but in some places the story repeated, and towards the last few chapters it was not as well written, and dragged on a bit in the manner it was conveyed. However still a good overall read and an amazing life!

When Jen Welter became a linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, she was the first woman to ever break the glass sideline of the NFL. In Play Big, Welter reveals the grit that it took to be a trailblazer in the ultimate boys' club.
Pre-NFL, Welter was an undersized, underestimated athlete who made sacrifice after sacrifice to acheive her football dreams - rising to the top of women's football leagues and eventually daring to play against men twice her size. Play Big lays out how she succeeded despite the odds, through force of will and determination, revealing the wisdom Welter gained over countless setbacks and challenges. With vivid wit and candor, Play Big will coach you to do the same - whatever your obstacles might be - while translating Welter's hard-earned advice for cultivating true perseverance and toughness.
    Critic Reviews:
"When I met Jen, I saw the passion in her. Not just in her voice or a particular word she said-in her whole person. It was easily recognizable that the insights and experience were there. Her resume spoke for itself. But her enthusiasm about the game, her expertise, and being able to teach what she knew, I thought was very evident in the first meeting. That's why I hired her. Anyone reading this book will be inspired by her drive and learn from her journey. She has a different perspective on how to teach that extends beyond the field." (Bruce Arians, Arizona Cardinals head coach)
"Jen Welter is a master of change, not only for the NFL but for women in society. I'm proud of everything that she has done to change perception and reality for the next generation. Jen is a force and is one of the most qualified people I know on change." (Nancy Lieberman, Sacramento Kings assistant coach, Basketball Hall of Fame Member)

This charming autobiographical tale from HRH Princess Michael of Kent tells of a girl growing up and the incredible bond that can exist between people and animals. Beautifully written by a natural storyteller, it is also a wonderful portrait of Africa - the cheetah version of Born Free - and will delight listeners worldwide.
In the early 1960s, Marie Christine von Reibnitz (who would later become HRH Princess Michael of Kent) lived with her father on his farm in Mozambique. Then just a teenager, Princess Michael was entranced by the African landscape, by the wildlife and by the people she met. It was one of the happiest times of her life, and she recounts that it was an orphaned cheetah cub (called Tess) who played a huge part in making it so.
The relationship between the young Princess Michael and Tess, whom she hand-reared and later successfully released into the wild, having trained her to hunt and survive on her own, will touch every listener's heart. Vivid, moving and hugely engaging, replete with anecdotes and hair-raising encounters, this is a major natural history autobiography.

    Publisher's Summary:
On November 25, 1950, during one of the toughest battles of the Korean War, the US Eighth Army Ranger Company seized and held the strategically important Hill 205 overlooking the Chongchon River. Separated by more than a mile from the nearest friendly unit, 51 soldiers fought several hundred Chinese attackers. Their commander, Lieutenant Ralph Puckett, was wounded three times before he was evacuated. For his actions, he received the country's second-highest award for courage on the battlefield - the Distinguished Service Cross - and resumed active duty later that year as a living legend.
In this inspiring autobiography, Colonel Ralph Puckett recounts his extraordinary experiences on and off the battlefield. After he returned from Korea, Puckett joined the newly established US Army Ranger Department, serving as an instructor and tactical officer, and commanding companies at Fort Benning and in the Ranger Mountain Camp in north Georgia. He went on to lead companies in Vietnam, train cadets at West Point, and organize the Escuela de Lancero leadership course in Colombia. Puckett's story is critical for soldiers, leaders, military historians, and others interested in the impact of conflict on individual soldiers as well as the military as a whole.

    Narrator: Rebecca Hensley
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 37 mins

    Release date: 09-13-17
    Publisher: Rebecca Hensley
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Reduced to Equality examines the life experiences and perspectives of one white sociologist who was born in the mountains of Kentucky, raised in a changing neighborhood in northern Illinois, gave birth to a biracial daughter, and eventually discovered that her ancestors were committed slaveholders. Coming to grips with her new and unexpected discovery, Hensley, with the help of her daughter, realizes that, ultimately, white people will have to do more than apologize for our shared past and present in order to ensure our future survival as a nation.
Hensley's seven-decade journey to better understand what she calls the "socially constructed, political notion of race" has taken her into prisons, universities, and even confrontations with the Ku Klux Klan. In Reduced to Equality, she lays bare her own personal vulnerability in an effort to help bridge the chasm between black people and white people in America.

Rebecca Hensleyâs memoire gave me a glimpse of her journey as she chose early on to leave the status quo and embark on a journey of freedom. She chose to be human first and rid herself of the paradigms America has created. She gave us a glimpse of her experiences, woven in the fabric of Americaâs âismsâ: class, race, and sex. As a woman I found a commanality with Hensleyâs relationships: boredom with a man, feelings of inadequacy with another, domestic violence in another, lack of protection, and finally creating genuine friendships with those you love. I also found a commanilty in my biggest fears through her journey with her son, who seemed to be a brilliant, strong vibrant young man. Most of all, I enjoyed Hensleyâs memoire because she is fearless and follows her heart. She began her life with the family structure this country applauds, but she chose happiness and humanity instead. Her memoire is not apologetic, she confronts disparities head on and instead of apologizing she acknowledges, rolling up her sleeves to be a part of the solution.
    Outstanding read
This book was an outstanding read. I really admire the Authorâs openness and brutal honesty of herself. Her fight for righteousness and equality were heart felt. In so many ways the author shows the importance of everyone having the same rights and social status in this country. The subject matter of this book gives strong insight to some of the problems of the world today and an answer to why so many things are still the same today.

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
These days, swimming may seem like the most egalitarian of pastimes, open to anyone with a swimsuit - but this wasn't always the case. In the 19th century, swimming was exclusively the domain of men, and access to pools was a luxury limited by class. Women were (barely) allowed to swim in the sea, as long as no men were around, but even into the 20th century they could be arrested and fined if they dared dive into a lake. It wasn't until the 1930s that women were finally, and reluctantly, granted equal access. This is the story of the women who made that possible, a thank you to the fearless 'swimming suffragettes' who took on the status quo, fought for equal access, and won.
Part social history, part memoir, Swell uncovers a world of secret swimming in the face of these exclusions and shines a light on the 'swimming suffragettes'. It celebrates some amazing achievements, some ridiculous outfits and some fantastic swimmers who challenged the stereotypes of what women are capable of. It's also the story of how Jenny eventually came to be a keen swimmer herself.
Swell is a joyful hymn to the sport and an exploration of why swimming attracts so many women. Ultimately it is a book dedicated to our brilliant swimming foremothers who collectively made it possible for any woman to plunge in with alacrity, anywhere we choose.
    Critic Reviews:
"Fascinating and full of possibility, it is also properly snort-with-giggles-on-the-commute funny." (Alexandra Heminsley)
