In her opinion, there's a big difference between lying and not telling the whole truth....
...but when Harry Saunders chose to use her nickname on a resume, she knew anyone reading it would assume she was a man. But that was fine by her - as long as it meant getting the job. She needed the benefits for her sick little boy, and no matter how much one of her bosses hated her for not being entirely honest, she wasn't going to back down and quit.
Women had their place - and it wasn't working construction....
The moment Chris Parker realized they'd been duped, he tried in vain to find a loophole so he could fire Harriet. But just because they're stuck with her doesn't mean he has to like it, and he will never give up hope that she'll give him a reason to get rid of her. Until the day he discovers that she has a very ill son. A son who develops an instant case of hero worship for Chris.

Good Addition to the Coach's Boys Series
This is a laid back contemporary fiction about Harry and her boss Chris.
The story is very light on romance and concentrates mostly on the relationship between Chris and Harry's Son.
The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. There are no cliffhangers and the story wraps up With a HEA conclusion.
**This audiobook was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion**
    Another Great One
I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review via audiobook boom. Harry is really Harriet and Chris first wants to remove her from his work site because he thought he was hiring a man. This is book 3 of Coaches Boys books. Chris falls for Scotty, the son, first then realizes that Harry will be a help not hindrance to his project. The narration was great and made the story flow very well.
    A great read!

    Such a wonderful read!!
The narrator was absolutely amazing - I got transported into the story right from the beginning! Loved it!
    great book
I haven't listened to any of the other books in this series but if the other books are this good I will be reading them the narrator was very nice the author was very nice. I received this book free from the author, publisher and or narrator for a honest opinion via audio book boom.com
    Great addition to the series
    Any additional comments?
Another good addition to the series. Entertaining and enjoyable. These are clean, getting to know you, building a relationship, just realizing we love each other romance stories that end with a HEA.
Even though this is part of a series it can definitely be read as a stand alone book.
There is a fine line between love and hate. While the budding relationship between Harry and Chris is the main focus of the story there is also the side mystery going on of who wants to kill the coach. This was a sweet feel good story. With such great characters you can't help but want a happy ending for everyone.
I feel Harry's pain about the bridge. I hate bridges and the Mackinaw Island bridge is one I really dont like.
Daniella Acitelli does the narration for this book. She does a good job.

    Publisher's Summary:
Leo Brice is dead, in a sense (not the traditional one). When the neurotic law student meets his cosmic match in Fiona Haeberle, an impulsive spirit and burgeoning soap star, all seems well - the two fall fast in love, and spend three years navigating their twenties in wide-eyed wonder. But once the fantastical woman who had defined his future bolts to pursue a fantasy life of her own, Leo is forced to come to terms with a reality that more closely resembles an epilogue than the story he'd hoped it might be. Now a junior death row advocate, Leo immerses himself in the esoteric world of his condemned client, a born-again Georgia inmate named Michael Tiegs. As both men become consumed by the the question of an afterlife - and as Leo becomes increasingly confused by his own future and past - Tiegs' fate hangs in the balance. Leaning on his friends and grappling with his memories, Leo must try to save a client who may not want to be saved after all, even as he struggles to confront the prospect of his own mortality.
At once obsessively listenable, philosophically probing, and verbally acrobatic, The Life of the World to Come announces Dan Cluchey as a fresh new voice in fiction.

This is a great book for a third year student (a student who has gotten through the majority of french grammar but needs some reading experience). The only thing to watch out for for new french learners is that Nothomb does not use passe compose, she uses passe simple, which is not used as much in French anymore but is easy to learn. Overall, the book is just challenging enough without being too difficult to grasp.
Content wise, this book is very funny. Nothomb puts in a lot of sarcasm and humour in depicting her life as an infant and toddler. This book is sure to create a lot of chuckles even though the character may seem quite eccentric at times.

    Quelle merveille!
    Metaphysique Des Tubes
I really liked this book. I am not truly fluent in French, but Nothomb's style is very accessible. There is an English translation.
    Funny yet profound

    It was not for me...
I needed this book for my kids. They have to read it for their French school (we are French).
Did they like it ? I don't know... But I suppose they like it as all students who must read books...

Some history, some thriller, some romance.
Very disappointing compared to Apple Tree Yard. Beautifully narated though. Too much violence and tragidy.
    Disappointed
I very much wanted to like this book, but it missed the mark for me with everything feeling a bit off, slightly contrived, and lacking subtlety. I do wonder, however, how much this has to do with the narration. Normally I feel I can separate the story from the narrator, but in this case I think the narration, which seemed cheesy, especially in the protagonist's dialogue, could've tinged the whole experience.
I'm sure some others will like it, but a disappointment to me.
    Not for me sadly!
    Any additional comments?
I hesitate to review this, as I only got through two (long) chapters. Louise Doughty can certainly write brilliantly. I loved Apple Tree Yard. It is infact one of my favourite books. Consequently, I really wanted to like this. Sadly, it isn't for me. The subject matter is depressing and nothing about it grabbed me. It may be better further in, but I am a 'too many books, too little time' woman, so I must move on.
    Terrific book but....read it !
The narration was slow and very tedious. As a result a fascinating story because just too boring to put up with. i then bought the book and absolutely loved it.
    Excellent
Thank you for another well written book with just the same thoroughly researched background and dramatic resonances.

    Publisher's Summary:
A young man must overcome a horrific past in order to release his inner demons in Justin Forest's shocking new novel, Lolita in the Lion's Den or Pre-Tween Juxtaposition.
Glen has fought for years to escape a brutal homelife, one in which he acts as his mother's only friend, and to accept that his father has been molesting his sister for over a decade.
After dropping out of high school and spending years working aimless jobs, Glen finally begins a new chapter when he experiences the thrill of college life. But with that freedom comes disturbing sexual desires and inclinations. Having become increasingly reliant on his own fantasy world, Glen soon finds himself mired in the world of adult pornography and struggling with his attraction to both women and girls.
Haunted by the damage his father's actions wrought on his family and other victims, Glen must come to terms with his admiration for the exact thing his father so actively destroyed.
More relevant than ever in today's hypersexualized world, Lolita in the Lion's Den or Pre-Tween Juxtaposition is an emotionally provocative listen that gets to the heart of some of society's most pressing issues.

    Meh.
Started OK, but quickly devolved into a preachy mess of guilt-ridden apologetics.
After a while, it's like "We get it, your attraction to young girls grosses you out... It should!" The whole thing frankly comes off like a protracted version of "the Pete Townsend defense" but, at least THIS guy actually WROTE the book, unlike Townsend.

    Very interesting
    Very difficult to Follow.
I really tried to make it through this book. I just did not understand what the author was trying to convey.
I normally read a book within a day or two, but this one I kept putting it down and thinking when will it get better.
The author was all over the place. Jumping back and forth between the present and the past.
The story did not flow and I just could not figure out what point he was trying to make other than he loved all females of all ages.
    Awful book
Reads like the random thoughts of a stoner, there's no rhyme or reason to this book, it's extremely boring, written by a very confused man trying to justify his abnormal thoughts. Glad it was free, unfortunately my time isn't though
this book brings to the front the need for much better education as our children are growing up to prevent ...
I had occasion to work with sex offfenders for ten years. I found that they were just average people who gave in to an impulse and got caught. None of them were the violent predators that the media make them out to be. Of course violent predators exist, but they were not allowed into this program. That being said, many of the issues that were raised during the treatment process, were also addressed in this book by Justin Forest. Our societ ies Victorian attit;udes are making criminals of anyone who has even thought about sex, meaning all of us. Forest brings to light how harmful these attitudes have become. Sex has long been considered "bad" or "evil" in our society. It is not. If nothing else, this book brings to the front the need for much better education as our children are growing up to prevent so many irrational sexual attitudes in adulthood.

    Interesting read
This is a Summary and Analysis about "The Nest," a New York Times Bestseller, a warm, funny and acutely perceptive debut novel by Cynthia DâAprix Sweeney about four adult siblings and the fate of the shared inheritance that has shaped their choices and their lives. This is a tender, entertaining, and deftly written debut. Sweeney brings a remarkable cast of characters to life to illuminate what money does to relationships, what happens to our ambitions over the course of time, and the fraught yet unbreakable ties we share with those we love. It is a hilarious family saga where a group of adult siblings find their futures uncertain when they realize the shared inheritance theyâve been counting on might have been drained by their reckless older brother.
This summary book provides the reader information on the Summary of the book, Important People, Character Analysis, Analysis of the Themes and Authorâs Style. This is a good quick read specially for those who don't want to dive in straight into reading all 368 pages of the original book. This is an excellent summary to say the least.

Explore the lives of some Gen X-ers
As a millennial, there are certain stories and themes that appeal to me. When I heard about "The Nest," which is the story about a group of disillusioned young adults coping with the aftermath of 9/11 and the 2008 financial crisis, my interest was piqued. I grew up with both of those events, and they've defined who I am today. But not wanting to dive into a novel I picked up this Instaread review to see if "The Nest" was worth a shot.
This Instaread summary explores the plot, the characters, and the themes to dissect the greater message of the novel. There are additional insights into their relationships, their motives, and what the book is trying to explain.

    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
From the best-selling author of Prep, American Wife and Sisterland comes this brilliant retelling of Pride & Prejudice, set in modern-day Cincinnati.
The Bennet sisters have been summoned from New York City. Liz and Jane are good daughters. They've come home to suburban Cincinnati to get their mother to stop feeding their father steak as he recovers from heart surgery, to tidy up the crumbling Tudor-style family home and to wrench their three sisters from their various states of arrested development.
Once they are under the same roof, old patterns return fast. Soon enough they are being berated for their single status, their only respite the early morning runs they escape on together. For two successful women in their late 30s, it really is too much to bear. That is, until the Lucas family's BBQ throws them in the way of some eligible single men....
Chip Bingley is not only a charming doctor, he's a reality TV star, too. But Chip's friend, haughty neurosurgeon Fitzwilliam Darcy, can barely stomach Cincinnati or its inhabitants. Jane is entranced by Chip; Liz, sceptical of Darcy. As Liz is consumed by her father's mounting medical bills, her wayward sisters, and Cousin Willie trying to stick his tongue down her throat, it isn't only the local chili that will leave a bad aftertaste.
But where there are hearts that beat and mothers who push, the mysterious course of love will resolve itself in the most entertaining and unlikely of ways. And from the hand of Curtis Sittenfeld, Pride & Prejudice is catapulted into our modern world singing out with hilarity and truth.

"Sittenfeld has an astonishing gift for creating characters that take up in residence in readers' heads." (Washington Post)
"When it comes to tearing apart contemporary American family life, Sittenfeld is up there in a class of her own." (Guardian)
"Curtis Sittenfeld has a knack for capturing characters so vividly it's uncanny." (Daily Mail)

"Curtis Sittenfeld shares with Salinger a knack of capturing, in effortless prose, a teenager mindset.... It feels important.... Most vitally of all, it feels like adolescence." (The Times)
"Sittenfeld is a pin-sharp observer." (Independent on Sunday)
"The summer's most delicious read." (Entertainment Weekly)

    Easy listening and entertaining
It was interesting to see how the author modernised each character and situation/plot line. Most 'changes' were done well but I thought the Lydia plot line was just an excuse to bring in a topic that is current but just felt clumsy and unnecessary with so much else going on- the Wickam character became two people and I felt Lydia's Wickam was only done for shock value. Other than that is was quite clever. Would see this book as a holiday or beach read/listen type of book.

The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel is a novel consisting of three novellas that are linked despite covering events widely separated in time. I think I liked it - but not sure!
What made the experience of listening to The Narrow Bed the most enjoyable?
This audiobook is going to require at least another listening before I can make up my mind whether I enjoyed it or not - up until halfway through I found the number of characters (particularly in the police) and the story hard to follow. One of the downsides of audiobooks is you can't flick back a page or two to remind you who's who. During the second half once I figured things out - I enjoyed the story and the narration. The writing was descriptive and making the lead character quite un-likeable was an interesting choice. The plot left a lot of unanswered questions.Such as what happened with Kim's ex-husband and what the point of the sub plot with Charlie and her sister was, or what happened to Sondra.
Would you be willing to try another book from Sophie Hannah? Why or why not?
I'd read another book by the author, but perhaps not audio book
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    No
    Any additional comments?
I found this book because I really enjoyed Julia Barrie's narration of I Let You Go.
    Ludicrous plot saved by humour.
The story is told from a first person narrator the stand up comic Kim and third person narration for the police team leading the investigation. The first person narration is actually the supposed reading of a book Kim has written about her brush with the law and a murder mystery in which she should have been a victim. Books are at the heart of this tale and the killer's motive is closely linked to books too. The motive for the killings is perhaps one of the most ridiculous I have ever read and the police work is so far from any semblance of reality that suspension of disbelief is stretched to the utmost limit.
However the reason why I listened to this book straight through was the humour - there are passages which had me in stitches especially Kim's sex-mad lover who verges on the autistic. Her description of life with her husband is highly amusing and various scenes involving the police characters are also very funny.
The sub plot of Charley trailing her sister is also beyond credibility but also entertaining especially when Kim gets involved in this saga.
As a murder mystery I could not honestly rate this book very highly but as a tale of human foibles and eccentricities it does a great job of entertainment. The narrator was very good.
Not the author's usual high standard.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, because I follow the Culver Valley series.
