Ratings: 2 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
The Man Who Melted is a warning for the future. It is the Brave New World and 1984 for our time, for it gives us a glimpse into our own future - a future ruled by corporations that control deadly and powerful forms of mass manipulation. It is a prediction of what could happen... tomorrow. The Man Who Melted examines how technology affects us and changes our morality, and it questions how we might remain human in an inhuman world. Will the future disenfranchise or empower the individual? Here you'll find new forms of sexuality, new perversions, new epiphanies, and an entirely new form of consciousness.
Would you pay to "go down" with the Titanic?
In this dystopia, the Titanic is brought back from the bottom of the sea and refurbished, only to be sunk again for those who want the ultimate decadent experience. Some passengers pay to commit suicide by "going under" with the ship.
The Man Who Melted has been called "one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time" by Science Fiction Age and is considered a genre classic. It is the stunning odyssey of a man searching through the glittering, apocalyptic landscape of the next century for a woman lost to him in a worldwide outbreak of telepathic fear. Here is a terrifying future where people can gamble away their hearts (and other organs) and telepathically taste the last flickering thoughts of the dead.

The Man Who Melted by Jack Dann
What made the experience of listening to The Man Who Melted the most enjoyable?
The Man Who Melted explores themes of love and redemption in a 22nd century world fractured by a mass telepathic 'Scream' which can destroy or send the minds of those affected into limbo. Protagonist Raymond Mantle searches for his lost love Josiane and his past.
What other book might you compare The Man Who Melted to, and why?
I'd compare it to Grahame Greene's 'The Third Man' for its use of suspense, setting and atmosphere.
What does Kevin T. Collins bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
Kevin T. Collins' dramatisation of the characters creates a sense of a world of complex relationships. His narration captures the intensity of Dann's highly descriptive style.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I found that I wanted to immerse myself in it but also enjoyed taking time to stop and re-listen to sections where the ideas were interesting.
    Any additional comments?
A modern science fiction classic concerned with human beings in a science fictional world trying to make sense of the madness around and within them rather than just hardware and explosions.

    Title: The Red Country
    Author: Sylvia Kelso
    Narrator: Jesse Einstein
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 29 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-28-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Introducing the princess and the mage.He doesnt do well with people. She isnt so good with tact. But to survive an imperial invasion the wild, beautiful, fragile desert of Hethria will need them both.
She knows about tactics. He understands reality. They both love Hethria. But what if, to save something you love, you have to change yourself? Some wars you just cant win alone.
The Red Country is the third book in the Chronicles of Rihannar, successor to Everrrans Bane and The Moving Water, praised by reviewers for the depth of their world-building and attractive characters. In this vividly realized high fantasy, love and magic are tested to the utmost in the struggle for a land whose spell, once experienced, is impossible to escape.
    Editorial Reviews:
Performer Jesse Einstein has his work cut out for him in The Red Country, the third and final instalment of Sylvia Kelsos dragon fantasy trilogy, Rihannar Chronicles. Kelso specializes in made-up words and long descriptions of an imagined landscape and people, while Einsteins staccato may be said to be anything but sensual or lush.
The Red Country focuses on Princess Selithar and her journey across the Red Country (based on Central Australia) in search of aid for her ailing people. Romance, politics, and the independence of a young womans spirit are signal themes. The Red Country may be enjoyed as a stand-alone.
    Members Reviews:
    Fantasy/Romance Crossover
This is the third volume in Kelso's Chronicles of Rihannar, but it can be read stand-alone without getting lost. Here the author definitely crosses over into romance, although the fantasy component is also strong. Sellithar is a young, headstrong princess who loathes the formality of the king's court of Everran. Her life begins to change when she persuades her father to take on a foreigner as her tutor.
The Red Country of the title is based on the Red Centre of Australia. Finding a world populated with goannas, kangaroos and wagtails is a refreshing change from the euro-centric fauna of so many fantasies. After her father dies, Sellithar's attempts at maintaining her country's independence amid its larger neighbors come to nothing. In desperation she heads out into the desert, following a dream about an ancient king of Everran who made the same journey in search of aid. The red country, and the twin wizards who are its protectors, complicate her life even further.
If you are put off by the romance genre or made-up fantasy languages you shouldn't start reading Kelso with this volume. And occasionally I almost expected one of her mentors to address Sellithar as "grasshopper" [see [...] But the romantic tension is generally well-handled, and the way it developed even surprised me a few times. The mentor's guiding philosophy adds to the tension; conflicts are acknowledged and must be wrestled with.

The world was not always as it is today. It was once home to creatures and peoples long since forgotten. Told of now only in bedtime stories and mythical tales of adventure and wonder, these creatures and brave souls are but a shadow of what they once were. In their day, they were the grand warriors, the proud champions and the noble servants. When honor, duty, and courage were the marks of a soul of true character, of true worth, these souls stood out among all the rest.
Some things which were forgotten, should now be remembered.

You might also find Rind, the Angelus of Death, already waiting for you. Meilori's is that kind of club. Its owner, Samuel McCord, is that kind of man. The man with the blood of Death in his veins, who finds some small measure of peace in easing the pains of others, though he cannot ease his own.
After Katrina, all of New Orleans stands in need of help. Even the Angelus of Death, Rind, whose presence is a heavy, anguished weight upon Sam's adopted city, needs help. But Sam is just the shadow of the man he was before his wife left him seven years ago. But having a supernatural jazz club has its perks. He arranges for a pay per view internet concert of both the dead and the living giants of jazz to help pour money into a fund to repair all of New Orleans.
McCord's friends, both undead and living, help him arrange the "live" concert. But the club also has its downside: For the dead musicians to be able to appear in his club, the undead, usually not the most amiable of creatures, can also pay a visit. And visit they do, along with DayStar, an old enemy who entered this plane of existence from beyond what we think of as Time. But alongside DayStar in this strange club on the outskirts of known reality, McCord discovers that there is a worse fate than being killed by DayStar's plan. It is surviving it.

    Title: Tritcheon Hash
    Author: Sue Lange
    Narrator: Katina Kalin
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 39 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-22-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 2.5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Tritcheon Hash is a satirical ride throught the sci-fi genre. In a futuristic world, women get tired of men and abandon them to stew in their juices on a rapidly declining Earth. They colonize their own planet, "Coney Island," and live in an all-female society.
    Editorial Reviews:
Narrator Katina Kalin has a slight breathiness to her voice that she skillfully adjusts to create the voices of the different characters in this science fiction satire. Tritcheon Hash is a fighter pilot in the all-female world of Coney Island, whose inhabitants have long ago abandoned Earth to men. However, the men have recently proposed reuniting the sexes, and both sides are wondering if this is a good idea. Kalin's narrative voice is pleasantly distinct from her characters' voices, and the jaunty cadence she uses to describe Tritch's adventures lends extra verve to the story.

Men, don't be scared by the word feminist in other reviews!!
Prior to reading this ebook, I read a few reviews on this site. Other than noting the overall favorable quality, one word jumped out at me: "feminist". Hardly any other word will make a man put down a book, or turn off a tv show, or leave a conversation faster than the word "feminist". We can't win.
This book is not "feminist" with all the negative connotation (to men at least) that goes along with it. Yes, this book has a powerful female character. So does Buffy. So does Xena. So does The X-Files. So do a lot of the best things in sci-fi/fantasy. Yes, this book does have a bunch of ideas that denegrate some men. It also has ideas that offer positive traits for some men just as it shows some negative traits for some women.
Getting past that, the character of Tritcheon jumps off the page and comes to life rather quickly. Her world is so vastly different that it does take some time to picture and completely grasp it but that's part of the unique fun of this novel. The author's descriptions and vocabulary are also expertly unique and gripping but do take some getting used to in the beginning.
I was captivated by the plot rather quickly and looked forward to how it all would play out.
I recommend this ebook to all women and ALL men who love good sci-fi; I especially recommend this ebook to all those who love a dash of humor mixed in as well.
There was a few formatting problems with the ebook itself but nothing that made the prose difficult to read and not enough to detract from the novel itself in any way.
Read Trictheon Hash and hope for further adventures...hint hint.
    Hilarious Sci-Fi Comedy
This book is a blast. Its a hilarious, definitely feminine perspective on how things could go in a future society about 1000 years in the future when women get tired of us annoying men that dont learn how to behave. The take on how men and women go from the point of women saying "we're done" is hilarious. The jokes and humor in the story are awesome, the setting is great, even the names of some of the items are funny. Although as a male, I dont think I'd want to be on either planet, I know of course which planet I'd have to choose to live on, just that I would be kicked out.
It would be interesting to see a sequel covering what was alluded to in the last half of the book as well as to see how well we men do.

    Editorial Reviews:
Varied and intense, Many Paths is a collection of short stories that follow a diverse assortment of characters from Pati Nagle's Immortal Iven books. Nagle demonstrates the true range of her writing in these tales, jumping from one breathtaking scene to another. Chandra Skyye, who performs this work, also impresses with her emotional depths. It is remarkable the way Skyye is seemingly able to inhabit the psyche of each character brought forward by Nagle's pen. An audio performance not to be missed.

    Editorial Reviews:
A finalist for the Aurealis Australian "best fantasy novel" award, Moving Water is the second of Sylvia Kelsos "Rihannar Chronicles". Jesse Einstein creates a sense of wonder with his performance of the goings-on in the high-fantasy world of Assharral, whose all-powerful empress Moriana little expects she sows the seed for revolution in dictating captain of the guard, Alkir, bring her wizard Beryx. He proves an easy-to-underestimate wizard with his scarred face and crippled arm, but while she will claim first advantage with his imprisonment, Beryxs devotion to the "good magic" of Math sparks hope for those over whom Morianna rules and a viable threat to the evil magic of Ammanth that is the source of her power.
    Members Reviews:
    excellent high fantasy
The Lady Moriana rules the Assharral Empire with an invisible but iron fist. She is worshipped as a goddess, immortal, beautiful with powers that can put a whole empire under her spell so that its inhabitants have no will but what she lets them have. Alkir the captain of the Lady's guard is summoned to her presence and told to bring to her a crippled man with a scarred face. He finds the man Beryx who is an ader (a wizard), who willing accepts their escort to the place and person he wants to go see.
On the trek to see Moriana he follows the Math (good magic) while the empress ruler follows Ammanth (Bad magic) amplified by the artifact the Well of Wisdom's light. When the two wizard's meet, they have a mental duel of sorts which ends with Beryx thrown into the dungeon where he promptly falls ill. Having won Alkir's loyalty and those of his guard, they help him and eventually he escapes taking those who helped him with him. Moriana destroys people and lands in her attempt to bring them back but Beryx is holding out in the hope that she makes the one mistake that will save the empire.
THE MOVING WATER takes place in the same world as Everran's Bane and shows just how great the author's world-building skills are. This is a high fantasy at its finest with good and evil battling for control of the innocent. Although Alkir is the main protagonist and the story is told from his point of view, Beryx will capture the hearts of the audience with his grit and determination as he chooses the power of the light path even though it could kill him.

    Publisher: Argyle Road Productions, LLC
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Like the classics of dystopian literature - think Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, and more recently, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, The Birthday Present 2050 is a dystopian play that takes a dark look at a disturbing contemporary trend and magnifies it under future totalitarian conditions.
The Birthday Present 2050 takes place in a society in which only people and things considered productive are assured existence. It posits a future society perfect and brutal, where citizens must choose each year between extending the life of an aging loved parent, or accumulating more comfort for themselves based on an earned point system. The story begs the listener: What would you choose? What makes The Birthday Present 2050 so unique and chilling is the play is set around the family dinner table, a quaint anachronism in the ordered, unsentimental future of 2050.
The Birthday Present 2050 is a drama, a distilled vision of a disturbing world that goes to the heart of what we value as humans.
