The music world lost a wonderful player on June 23rd, as Ellen McIlwaine passed at the age of 75. The cause of death was reported to be from esophageal cancer. Ellen came to prominence in the 1970s with her firey slide guitar style. Juneteenth commemorates the day (June 19, 1865) when Union General Gordon Grainger announced General Order No.3 proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas. Celebrations of the date happened at the time, but eventually took a back seat to the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. With the advent of Black Lives Matter, new emphasis has been placed on the holiday … and we’ll be celebrating this week as well.

The Pandemic has caused many families to be apart. Betty and I last visited our son and his wife in West Virginia for Christmas 2019.
