We are all wrapped up for 2024!

Today we share what is happening in our homeschool lives and embracing the slowness as that end-of-year exhaustion creeps in. We have lowlights and highlights to share, as well as plans for a cup-filling adventure.

In part two, we continue our deep dive into our homeschool positivity sandwich. 

Patience and flexibility are the hot topic of today's chat. Dropping a very specific 'school' structure can be so empowering, but at the same time... confusing. Learning how to plan your days, or knowing when to drop them to stay home instead takes time to learn (and unlearn!)

The media sometimes make it into the not-so-nice part of this sandwich, as well as those people in our lives who just 'don't get it'.  

Don't worry, it's not all bad! We finish off with how homeschooling encourages a life-long love of learning and the 'glimmers' that come along to reassure us that we are meant to be on this homeschooling path.

What on earth is a homeschooling positivity sandwich?

It is an honest chat about all the good parts, bad parts and the 'ugly' parts of homeschooling all sandwiched together over two episodes. 

In part one, there is plenty of chats about finding all the positive things in homeschooling, including connection, community and curiosity. But, this discussion also looks at the tough bits, like how to start trusting your instincts, how to cope with the financial changes and our experience of making decisions around spending and saving.

It's here... Term Four... in all it's amazingness!!

Our 'holiday hibernation' has been restful and slow. But, we promise we did leave the house to have a few spontaneous adventures in-between.

We are very much preparing for the term ahead, wrapping up our year, and beginning the big task of report writing (head back to Episode 18 for our best tips and tricks if you are also report writing this term!). Holly shares how she is bringing back her family's favourite homeschool topic this term. And, it is so good, Gemma has decided to steal it too!

Term Three has somehow been and gone!!

Along with her family, a FIFO dad, three kids and their dog Reg, they are travelling fulltime across Australia and documenting their favourite spots along the way as they explore all that our beautiful country has to offer.

Welcome back as we continue our conversations with Professor Gina Riley and Dr Rebecca English.

Professor Riley is an educational psychologist, Clinical Professor, and Program Leader of the Adolescent Special Education Program at CUNY – Hunter College. Professor Riley is recognised internationally for her research in the fields of homeschooling, unschooling and intrinsic motivation.

We are also joined by the wonderful Dr Rebecca English. As a researcher, teacher and mother, Dr English's work is concerned with parenting and education. She holds a particular interest in the choice of non-mainstream education, especially democratic schools and home education.

In part two of this episode, both Gina and Rebecca dive into some commonly asked questions about unschooling. We explore how unschoolers can access higher education, what the research tells us about future career paths taken and how the unschooling approach can support neurodivergent families.
