Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
The boys are still down to two this week, but fortunately, there’s a brand new, chilled, but exciting episode ready for your ears! This episode is aimed at the gearheads! Rhys and Jack sat down this week to talk (fangirl) over their mutual love for a new reverb pedal that Rhys bought, the Ventris by Source Audio. Among other things, this episode touches on some useful gear advice for those who are just getting their first pedal or building their board.
Perhaps you’re looking for some new ideas to get you back into the practice rooms or new sounds to help those creative juices start flowing again! Investing in new pedals and small gear additions to your setup can be an ideal way of jump-starting a new interest in composition, performance, or curiosity!
What new pedals have inspired you recently? Comment below!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
We’re rolling out another duo episode this week!
Picking techniques can cause guitarists temporary rage and insanity!
When guitarists start to get serious about the instrument, it often leads them to explore the crazy world of technique.
This episode is about picking techniques and how guitarists can pinpoint their right-hand weaknesses. Touching upon advice from Yngwie Malmsteen and Eric Johnson, we explored some of our own weaknesses and how advice from the pros can go a long way!
We hope that you enjoy the episode and pick up some of the technique golden nuggets that were shared. Let us know in the comments what technique tip helped you the most?

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
It’s all about change this week on SIJ!
Sitting In Jams is having a bit of a carousel moment with Jack away this week and Callum & Rhys back again! This episode was a wee catch-up with where Rhys and Callum are at, with some great advice for changing environments, freelance musician tips, and home studio remedies!
With Callum moving house this past month, we talked about how to set up a home studio from scratch, recording and mixing from home and some other tales from the studio!
This episode would be a great resource for any musicians looking to establish more work-from-home strategies and advice for recording guitars, vocals and drum kits!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
Things on Sitting In Jams are a little different this week with Jack shooting a solo episode!
With Rhys and Callum away this week, Jack decided to take questions from listeners via social media to create an episode. Covering subjects ranging from advice on improving guitar technique, musical hot takes and how to make your old licks into new ideas! With plenty more interesting subjects and ideas discussed, this episode took on a different speed from our regular episodes.
Let us know, did you enjoy the solo episode?
And tell us, what was the best advice a teacher gave you?

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
Every day is a school day! But especially today as we cover the subject of learning music.
This episode is all about asking the question of how to learn music. What notation systems are the best to use? How do we balance ear training and sight-reading? What’s the best way to learn a set of music? Perhaps you’ve asked these questions yourself!
In our discussion today, we break down all of the ways that we’ve found it helpful to learn music for gigs, for enjoyment and for the challenge of it! Each of us comes from a different musical background so it was an interesting conversation where we all share our various approaches.
How do you learn music best? Let us know in the comments!

This episode takes a deep dive into the subject of composition.
What makes a good composition? How do I start writing my own songs? What tips can I use to make composing easier for me? We answer and discuss all of these questions in this fun, engaging discussion.
We kicked it off today by sharing some insights about our most recent compositions and the processes that we’ve been exploring. Our conversation touches on the methods (or lack of!) that each of us have used to develop our writings. It was interesting to hear 3 completely different thought processes for writing music and we are sure that this conversation will give you some fresh perspectives on writing!
We hope that you enjoy this episode and we’d love to know about your writing and compositions! How do you collect ideas for your songs? Maybe you have a top tip for budding composers that you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments below!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
We’re back with a brand new episode for your un/caffeinated ears!
his week, we’re discussing what self-reflection is like for musicians. For a lot of creative people, it’s highly important that they have an outlet for deeper thoughts, feelings, and debriefs on their creative experiences. Sometimes, it’s about capturing concepts or ideas to work on at a later date.
We started by discussing famous musicians & artists, the necessity of their self-reflection for their artwork, and exploring how we each journal our experiences, both musical and non-musical reflections.
How important is it for you to document your own self-reflections on your creative journey?
We would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week we were without Callum! So, we thought that it would be a nice opportunity to talk about the state of social media and musicians. We’ve been meaning to have this conversation for some time as social media is a big part of our business and personal lives. Connecting with like-minded creatives, musicians and a new audience is the biggest positive of using social media. Knowing how to start or what to post can become an infuriating and confusing process. We want to remain true to our artwork and persona but it’s easy to get caught up in battling the magical algorithms, driving engagement and audience traffic. It can quickly become a wild goose chase.
Our conversation covers a wide variety of topics concerning musicians and social media. This was a fun chat for both of us but we would love to know your thoughts in the comment section!
Tell us, what do you like/dislike about social media and the music world?

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week, we took a step back from music to talk about some of our current favourite books and writings that have been inspiring us. From philosophical daily readings to books on improvisation and neurology. Books can be a great resource to help generate new ideas or help us develop; positive habits, thoughts around music, ideas for life, and discipline. This conversation had some laughs and was a lot of fun to have. We hope that you thoroughly enjoy it!
