This episode marks the sixth and final teaching of the series Six Impediments to Personal Success. In this message Pastor Harris will bring the final of the six impediments which relates to the human tendency to become disorganized, thus dysfunctional. To demonstrate how this occurs, pastor Harris will use the biblical example of the twin brothers, Esau and Jacob, two brothers who could not have been any more different.

Even as a fetus in the womb, Jacob desired to be the firstborn. Before conscious awareness ever dawned, he wanted to attain the birthright belonging to his father, Isaac. This was so much the case that he wrestled continually in the womb with his twin. These contests became so violent it made the life of his mother Rebecca miserable. As a result, she approached God to ask Him what was happening. The Lord told her that one of the twins would be stronger than the other, but that the elder would serve the younger, which was the reverse of the usual custom of the time.

So, when the time came for the twins to be born, Esau began to emerge from the birth canal first, but before he could clear the canal, observers could see the hand of the second born grasping the heel of first born attempting to pull him back into the womb. The term, “grabbing the heel” is the Hebrew word AQEB, which we know as Jacob.

Jacob is said to be “quiet,” which can mean “morally sensitive.” He may have been this way because he spent his time developing a plan to inherit the covenant promises made to his grandfather Abraham. In this message, Pastor Harris will not pass moral judgment on Jacob, but he will demonstrate the organized way in which this man pursued his dream. Pastor will make the point that success belongs to those with a plan.
