Mark 12:41-44. It may surprise you that God’s evaluation of a person is drastically different than man’s evaluation of a person. While man looks at the outside of a person, God sees deeper. God sees the heart. The truth that God sees your heart will either excite you or scare you depending on the condition of your heart. In the context of today’s scripture we recognize that God sees our heart when we give to Him. This message is a quick dive into why giving matters to God and what kind of giving impresses Him.

Mark 12:28-31. “First things first.” We tend to say or hear that phrase a lot. Each time it is used the speaker is trying to convey that they need to do the most important things before they do the things of lesser importance. In this text Jesus is asked a big question, “What is the most important commandment?” They want to know what needs to go first in this life. In this message we look at what Jesus says we need to prioritize as we put “first things first.”

Mark 12:18-27. What is God like? What is heaven like? Two very big questions. If we don’t look in the right place for the answers to those questions then we will never get an accurate understanding of God or heaven. So where do we go? In this passage of Scripture Jesus reveals that great misunderstandings happen when we don’t understand God’s Word. Mark 12:13-17. Once again, religious and political leaders are working together to try to trap Jesus with a trick question. This time they come at him with a question of paying taxes to the oppressor of the Jewish people, Caesar. Jesus seemed to be in a no-win situation but as always he found a way to leave his detractors dumbfounded and give us an amazing truth to explore.

Mark 12:1-12. Jesus is the king of storytelling and object lessons. He just knows how to make it make sense to us. Mark 11:20-25. We pray to God because we hope our prayers will be heard and answered. Is there anything we can do to increase the chances that our prayers are answered? In these verses Jesus tells us that there certainly is! Mark 11:12-21. There are some things in life that really catch our attention. They are big, bright, flashy, busy, and engaging. They appear to have all the answers or at least have things figured out. But many of those things, as we get closer, we are disappointed to find out they have no substance to them. In this passage of Scripture Jesus teaches us that a show is not what He desires from us. Instead, Jesus wants to see that the seeds of salvation are bearing fruit in our lives.

Mark 11:1-11. We have heard some incredible stories of past kings, pharaohs, monarchs, or emperors. Many of them struggle with humility in their never-ending pursuit of sovereignty. When we think of a king, many times we think of an egotistical person who wants to control everything even though they can’t. Those are earthly kings. But what kind of King is Jesus and how does He differ from those stories we’ve heard of others? Acts 2:42-47. In life we often want amazing results without putting in the effort it takes to achieve them. We want to be in great shape without eating well and exercising. We want more money without working harder or longer. In Acts 2 we read about an incredible move of the Holy Spirit as it says, “And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” But what came before those amazing results?
