John Hughes' 1985 film Weird Science, is what we'd call 'proto-slime', a movie that lays the groundwork for the narrative and thematic tropes that populate the genre. We chat about what has -- and mostly hasn't -- aged well, the problematic humor of Hughes, hidden cultural artifacts, and most importantly, its standing in the Slimehouse history books.
