The Cesta Hrdinov SNP or Trail of the Slovak National Uprising Heroes is an approximately 763 kilometre long hiking route across the whole of Slovakia, crossing many of places where important events of the Slovak National Uprising against Nazis in 1944-1945 took place. Thanks to his respondents, Mojmír Procházka brings you two perspectives on the Trail - a sporty one and a tourist one.
After the regular news bulletin we will speak to Karen Henderson, lecturer in European studies and political science at Comenius University in Bratislava. This is the first part of mini-series dedicated to her observations regarding the political development in Slovakia after 1989. The life of Christians under Czechoslovakia's 40-year totalitarian regime was not easy, with some being sent to prison and all feeling the watching eyes of the authorities. We speak with two Slovaks who as young Christians attended the March 1988 peaceful demonstration called the "Candle Manifestation", which provoked such a violent reaction from the authorities. What was life like for them and their families during those difficult years?
