Who is James Hol? What would possess an otherwise intelligent and sane human being to run for politics? And given he's almost through his campaign, let's get an insight into what IS a political campaign? What's actually involved for the candidates on the ground, and what sorts of things do they do (besides kissing random babies) to try and win votes?

And of course it's a slow chat, so you never know where it's going to go, or how long it's going to go for! So settle in to the comfy spot on the couch and grab a drink and some snacks as we explore what it means to be a candidate in an election!

Topher Slow Chats with Stuart Lindsay, former Judge and man in-the-know about certain interesting court cases, but just as importantly, a man who has deep first hand understanding of what is AND is not possible through court cases.

There's a lot of court cases happening right now, every single one of them unique in some way, and different cases are trying to prove / achieve different things. That's a good thing, but what should our expectations realistically be? How much change can be made via the legal system, and how fast?

It does us no good to get our hopes up for the wrong reasons, so understanding the 'game', being realistic about what can be achieved and WHEN, and setting ourselves up for the long game rather than thinking we'll be 'home by Christmas'... we'll be discussing all this and much more on our Thursday Night Slow Chat!

It's the first Slow Chat of 2022 and it's going to be a cracker.

Ross Cameron is a walking contradiction and manages somehow to be both erudite yet amusingly low brow when he wants to be, classically educated yet street wise, controversial yet grounded.

Topher hopes to make the most of his contradictions by talking bluntly about the world as it is today, but diving into Ross' knowledge of history to try and understand how we got here and how we get out.

It's a Slow Chat, so whisky and cigars are a given, as is a wide ranging and unpredictable conversation that may turn funny, political, philosophical, or deeply personal, and back again, at any moment in time.

Andrew Cooper shot to the front page of the newspapers when he became

the first person ever targeted by the Australian Government under their

'Foreign Influence' laws.

Andrew faced down the Australian Government and ultimately the charges

were dropped... but who is this oh-so-dangerous man? And what do you

have to do in order to be charged by our government for the crime of

'foreign influence'?

Slow Chats are always unpredictable, but Topher and Andrew have plenty

to talk about as they discuss Andrew's work (both past and present) and

how he became the FIRST (and possibly still only...?) person charged

under these extraordinary laws... and how he won that fight.

Slow Chat's are always unpredictable, but this one is going to be off

the charts!

My guest is Dr John Humphreys and here's a list of just SOME of his

achievements to date:

Father of three, PhD and lecturer in economics, has worked as an

economist for the Australian Treasury, World Bank, and ASEAN, founder of

the Australian Libertarian Society and the Australian Liberty Awards

(of which I am one of the recipients - just had to get that in

there...), Founder and President of the Liberal Democrats, former Deputy

Director and now Board Member of the Australian Taxpayers Alliance,

awarded a knighthood in the Cambodian Royal Order of Moniseraphon for

his contributions to education, has travelled to over 80 countries, and

also lectures on China because... well clearly he doesn't already have

enough to do!

He's recently become a Dad for the third time (congrats!) so he may be a

bit sleep deprived, but he's kindly agreed to slow chat with me and I'm

certain that we're going to have an incredible, and incredibly

wide-ranging, conversation!

Craig Kelly joins Topher for a Slow Chat for the ages! Neither Craig nor Topher need any introduction, but what you may not know is that Craig has been following Topher for 8+ years and they share common interest in a very broad range of topics!

Craig has become famous for speaking his mind and being willing to say things against the prevailing zeitgeist, and for his trouble he's been deplatformed from social media, censured by the parliament, hated-on by the media, and assaulted while out in public.

Tonight's slow chat is likely to get intense as Topher and Craig talk about some tough issues, address some conspiracy theories, and solve the worlds problems over a drink and a cigar (at least for Topher).

Today feels like a heavy day, and it's certainly one that history will not look on kindly, but this is not the end.

People are feeling disappointed, angry, even despairing, but lets channel that energy into something productive. There's things we CAN do, perhaps not to turn things around immediately, but to win this fight in the long run.

As always I'll be 'decompressing' with a cigar and some scotch, I have some thoughts I want to share with you, some encouragements that I think are very important at times like this, but it's also important to be there for each other in moments like this, so lets have a chat, give a voice to how we're feeling, and make some constructive plans for what comes next.

Oh, and I'll be previewing an incredible song by Irwin Thomas (aka Jack Jones) that will be part of the Battleground Melbourne Documentary! It sounds amazing and has been written specially for the Doco.

So get comfy, tune in, lets have a stiff drink and a heart-to-heart chat.
