Small Studio Sessions

Kara Cole and Landon Keller didn’t plan on forming a band – the musicians met at a local concert almost a decade ago. On a whim, they played a song together on a festival stage in Greenfield, Indiana. The crowd’s enthusiastic response to their performance inspired the duo to form a strong musical partnership and a lasting friendship.

Ohmme is an experimental indie rock duo from Chicago, signed to Indianapolis record label Joyful Noise Recordings. The band’s latest album “Fantasize Your Ghost” is their second full length recording with Joyful Noise. The band stopped at WFYI for a session on their way to play a show at Indianapolis venue, Healer.

Ohmme played NPR’s Tiny Desk in 2019 and was named by series creator Bob Boilen, as one of his all-time favorite Tiny Desk concerts. In this session, Ohmme plays an intimate improvisational four song set, with violins, crunchy guitars, and sweet harmonies.

Indianapolis based musician Cole Woodruff presents a four song acoustic Small Studio from Home Session – Americana singer songwriter Cole Woodruff also plays guitar and harmonica. He’s originally from Frankfort Indiana, and moved to Indy to pursue his dream of making music. He examines intense emotions with his music and deals with sadness through contemplative songwriting and intricate guitar work.

Indianapolis' own Marrialle Sellars started playing music as a pre-teen and made it all the way to the Top 20 in the 2014 season of American Idol, at just 17 years old. She's grown as a performer and plays music throughout the city. Listen in to this vibrant three song acoustic set from Marrialle on vocals and guitar, recorded at home.

Katherine Nagy is an Indianapolis based singer songwriter. She plays an original blend of acoustic folk and Americana, with Celtic influences - brought about by her time living overseas in Ireland as a child, and worldwide travels. Katherine is joined in this Small Studio Skyline Session by musicians Austin Johnson and Tim Wright. Stay tuned right after the four song set for a chat with Katherine. The Brothers Footman are WFYI’s latest Small Studio Sessions featured act. The Brothers Footman are an Indianapolis-based band, consisting of four siblings who grew up making music together. The band features a unique family sound along with excellent harmonies. This session was recorded on the roof at WFYI’s Indianapolis parking garage, while practicing social distancing.
