  • Princess Mononoke (1997)

Alright. Full disclosure, I'm the editor and I'm the guest in this episode. Weird right? What's important is that this week we watched Princess Mononoke to close out the summer of animation and it's just a top tier movie. If you haven't seen it then you have probably heard about it so don't hesitate to dive in. It's a fantastic movie and a fun episode. What's not important is I had to make some hacker music in this episode and I'll tell you right now it's not great. It's more owl city than 90s hacker. And then later Kaz tells me to edit in a keyboard cat noise and so I edited in the keyboard cat music (you know the song), but turns out Kaz meant something else, like a keyboard that makes cat noises, and I didn't know how to find that. So I kept the keyboard cat meme cause it's thursday night and it's too late for me to message them. What a wild ride. Anyway how are all?

  • The Animatrix (2003)

This week we continue our adventure into the summer of animation and check out The Animatrix, which is a series of short films that blends together different forms of animation to add depth and build out the lore for the Matrix. Not only is this film praised by die-hards for the Matrix, but it's darn pretty to look at too. We get into the highs and lows of these shorts and dive into where some of these animation styles may have come from.

  • Perfect Blue (1997)

This episode gets a trigger warning. Perfect Blue is contains depictions of sexual assault and mental instability in a raw and real way (despite being an animated movie). We discuss some of these scenes in this episode so if you want to avoid hearing about that, then skip this one and we'll catch ya next week!

Perfect Blue is the story of a retired pop singer-turned-actress, Mima, as her sense of reality starts to shake. She is stalked by an obsessed fan while being haunted from reflections of her past. Perfect Blue is the first film directed by Satoshi Kon, an animated psychological thriller often compared to the suspense-ridden works of Alfred Hitchcock.

  • Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)

PumpkinPanic joins Kaz and Squarin this week to discuss a very goofy yet also very adult Batman movie which goes into one of the lesser known but more interesting Batman villain, Phantasm. Is this movie the best Christmas movie of all time? I mean surely not but POINTS WILL BE MADE TO THE ARGUMENT THAT IT IS.

If you like this episode I am here, writing to you now, share this with your friends and family. Heck share it with strangers (carefully). It truly helps a ton.

In this animated feature set in the 1940s, the troubled yet heroic Batman (Kevin Conroy) is pitted against a mysterious figure who is rubbing out Gotham City's most dangerous criminals, and who many believe is the caped crusader himself. Batman's alter ego, millionaire Bruce Wayne, is about to get married to the lovely Andrea Beaumont (Dana Delany), who helps him recover from his need to avenge his parents' murder -- meaning that his crime-fighting days may be numbered.
