    In today’s episode, I interviewed the retired Judith Ezekiel who is a professor emerita in Women’s Studies and African American Studies at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. Author of Feminism in the Heartland, she has also published on the U.S. and French women’s movements, Franco-American misrepresentations, and intersectionality of race and gender in numerous journals around the world. She co-founded the French, European, and International Women’s Studies Associations, the first French women of color research group, and was a founding member of the Conseil Répresentatif des Associations Noires. She has been an activist against the war in Vietnam, and in the labor, antiracist, and feminist movements in the U.S and France.

  • Episode 14: Former Death Row Records Artist & Ghostwriter J-Flexx
    In today's episode, I interviewed J-Flexx about his passion for music, his time as an artist and ghostwriter at Death Row Records, and what he is currently doing in the music industry.
    Bio for J-Flexx:
    J-Flexx ghostwrote lyrics for Dr. Dre during his tenure at Death Row Records. The first song he co-wrote in that collaboration, "Natural Born Killaz", became a Top 40 hit for Dre and Ice Cube in 1994 (Murder Was the Case Soundtrack). J-Flexx's success continued when he wrote lyrics for Dre's part in "California Love," a duet with Tupac Shakur.
    J-Flexx also co-wrote "Keep Their Heads Ringin," the first single from Ice Cube's Friday (soundtrack) (which ultimately sold over two million units). He followed that success with "Been There, Done That," a single released from Dr. Dre Presents the Aftermath.
    J. Flexx made two other appearances on the Gridlock'd soundtrack with the song "Lady Heroin" and on the Gang Related soundtrack with the song, "A Change To Come" and "Free Em All" with Tha Realest. He also produced the songs "Top Dogg Cindafella", "Curiosity" and "Things Your Man Won't Do" for the Chronic 2000.
    On December 5, 2007, it was revealed that For The People Entertainment would be releasing Stayin' Alive a collection of many unreleased songs by J-Flexx from his time on Death Row Records. This album was confirmed to have featured guest spots from Danny Boy, Sam Sneed, Barney Ruble, The Lady of Rage and Dr. Dre.

    Dr. Brenna Wynn Greer is an Associate Professor of History at Wellesley College. She is a historian of race, gender, and culture in the twentieth-century United States, who explores historical connections between capitalism, social movements, and visual culture.

    Her first book, Represented: The Black Imagemakers Who Reimagined African American Citizenship, examines the historical circumstances that made media representations of Black citizenship good business after World War II. A recipient of several teaching awards and major fellowships from the ACLS, Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Greer's work has been featured in The New York Times, Nation, Daily Mail, and Columbia Journalism Review.

    In today's episode, I will be chatting with Glenn Towery an Artist, Writer, Filmmaker & Vietnam Combat Veteran. He will be sharing about his artwork, funk culture, and the movie he is making "Starfunk & The Astral Pioneers".

    Glenn Towery Bio:
    Glenn Towery is also the author of three children’s books starring the B.R.I.T.E. B.R.A.T.S. The books are “Good Words, Bad Words: Don’t Say That!”, “Never Again Will We Bathe” and “Jamal Has A Bully”. The B.R.I.T.E. B.R.A.T.S. are four multiracial children from diverse cultures who are BFFs. The B.R.I.T.E. B.R.A.T.S., share life’s adventures together and tackle social subjects from a kid’s point of view. These books are beautifully illustrated by his wife, Juanita.
    As a theater person, Glenn Towery has had a long career. He was mentored by renowned stage manager and director, Edmund James Cambridge, and was friends with and worked with numerous talents including Margaret Avery, Marla Gibbs, Esther Rolle, Juanita Moore, Ted Lange, Robert Hooks, and several other well-known stars.
    He was a finalist in the Inner City Cultural Center National Short Play Competition in 1988 with his entry, “SHADOW BOXER”. His new acapella musical play, “RETURN TO HOME BASE”, is scheduled for a reading by the University of Texas drama department as part of their possible involvement in the upcoming AVAFEST 2021 celebration. The play chronicles the life of an African American soldier and the racism he faces at home in America and abroad in the killing fields of Vietnam. Glenn also composed the music for “RETURN TO HOME BASE.”
    Glenn is an award-winning filmmaker and screenplay writer. He is currently producing a motion picture from his award-winning screenplay, “Starfunk and the Astral Pioneers”. In 2017, this screenplay became an “Official Finalist” in both the CANNES and HOLLYWOOD Screenplay Contests in the SCI Fi category, which receive thousands of scripts a year in their contests for judging. in 2021 it won best screenplay SCI-Fi at the Festigious International Film Festival in Los Angeles in April of 2020. He has three other feature-length screenplays that he has written. “REST IN PIECE” (a haunting in the hood.), HITCHHIKE FOR LOVE (A Romantic Comedy), and “A TEXAS NEW YEARS EVE” a comedy that concerns itself with 3 Vietnam veterans and their raucous night in Texas.
    Glenn Towery has won several awards as a director/producer/writer for the film projects :
    “FOOLS GOLD”, “FREQUENCY” and “LONG LIVE THE SPIRIT” all of which he wrote and directed. As a veteran, Glenn served in the United States Navy. He is a member of the VFW, DAV, the American Legion, and AMVETS. Glenn is a Vietnam Combat veteran who served in the United States Navy.
    In 2010, Glenn began painting clocks and he has not stopped since. To date, he has painted nearly 100 clocks. His clocks run the gamut from portraits to historical scenes to the avant-garde.     About Lerner L. Edison, MSN, MA, RN, CNL, CCRN
    Critical Care Registered Nurse | Travel & Contract Nurse:
    Lerner is a proud United States Veteran as a Hospital Corpsman with more than a decade of healthcare experience, holding both clinical and administrative positions. He continues to promote healthy environments through mentorship and non-profit organizations.
    His passion to serve humanity led to a career change as a graduate student at the University of Virginia School of Nursing Direct-Entry Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Program from 2017-2019. He joined Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Cardiovascular Institute as a Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse in 2020 because of his passion for cardiac surgery and critical care. However, he recently transitioned to the Carilion Clinic Cardiac Surgery Flex Team to pursue Travel Nursing for critical care assignments at his alma mater the University of Virginia Health System, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Sentara Healthcare, and HealthTrust.
    He is also a scholar for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the University of Virginia Conway Scholar & Scholarship. He holds memberships for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for the Greater Richmond Area Chapter and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for the Beta Chapter. After his DAISY Award nomination in 2019, he obtained board certifications for the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), and the Acute/Critical Care Nursing for Adults (CCRN).
    Lerner's passion for knowledge has led to multiple nursing research studies in anxiety reduction for critical care nurses, infection prevention for patients with central lines on intensive care units, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) projects. His most recent scholarly work as a contributing author is for the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society 2021 publication on "Self-Care for New & Student Nurses.” In his free time, he enjoys reading, traveling, and theme socials with close friends and family with a continual focus on being a "change agent" in healthcare to elevate the nursing profession through culture.

    In today’s episode I interviewed Dr. Dariel "DT" Henry, an educator, author, mentor, podcast host, professor, and change agent in Higher Education. He shares his inspiring story about how he went from drop prevention to Dr. Henry.
    Biography:
    Dr. Dariel "DT" Henry is an educator, author, mentor, podcast host, professor, and change agent in Higher Education. He currently serves as the Director of TRIO at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts, managing 3 TRIO programs and a one million dollar budget.
    He is also a professor of Criminal Justice, Sociology, Organizational Behavior. Prior to his leadership in TRIO, Dr. Henry was an Academic Advisor at Dean College where he implemented strategies that increased retention of football student-athletes by 50%. In addition, DT earned his doctoral degree at Johnson and Wales University in Educational Leadership in 2016. His dissertation topic titled: Effective Strategies for Recruiting African American Males into Undergraduate Teacher Education Programs led him to join Regis College in 2018. At Regis, DT's research helped build the Regis Diverse Educators full-tuition scholarship program, and he recruits five students each year to major in education.
    In October 2020, he released his first book, "College Debunked: How to Go College on Football Scholarship." The book focuses on the academic perspective of the recruiting and admissions process. He is currently working on his second book tentatively titled "From Dropout Prevention to Doctor": 5 Strategies I learned growing up in Miami, Florida, that helped me become Dr. Henry.
    Dr. Henry's research interests include recruiting diverse educators, inclusion, cultural proficiency and relativism, social justice, and mass incarceration. His hobbies include working out, playing drums, and hosting his Swag Bender with Dr. Darie "DT" Henry Podcast.
