Happy new year! It's good to be back. Alanna Archibald began dancing when she was 3 years old, and it's been ingrained into her very being ever since. She now dances professionally for Béjart Ballet Lausanne in Switzerland and tours all over the world. On this episode, Sathya sits down with Alanna in her mother's (7th guest Tery Arnold) house in LA to chat about her dance career, growing up around dance moms, and to vent about things they hate. Check out the Béjart website for upcoming tour dates here: https://www.bejart.ch/en/agenda/ and keep up with Alanna on her Instagram (@alanna2992)! Happy holidays from "So You're An Artist"! For this special episode, our 3rd guest ever photographer Jelani Brown Roper takes the mic to fill in for Brock as him and Sathya sit down to interview their former teacher Mick Bender. In pursuit of her passion for fashion (yes, we see what we did there), Mick came to California in the 1970s, and has spent a better part of her life in Venice Beach where she lived in a treehouse, rollerskates, and designs clothing! We chat about all of this and more, including Mick's work for Vidal Sassoon, the CIA, and STAR Prep Academy. If you're interested in contacting Mick or in checking out her work, follow her on Instagram (@weldbaby2) or shoot her an email ([email protected])! Stay in touch with Jelani via Instagram (@j4ybr) and email ([email protected]) if you're interested in shooting with him! What a mess. What a complete mess. This episode follows Sathya and Brock ramble about future guests, dropping out of college, and fighting Nazis with clogs, all while engaging in a dual drawing challenge (that's right, Sathya draws in this one) and enjoying a cheese platter. That's it. We challenge you to listen to the whole thing. Never miss an episode of "So You're An Artist" by subscribing to us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Play Music! Many may not think of software engineering as an art form, but Thomas Suarez will tell you otherwise. Thomas was absorbed into the tech world at an early age, and has since then sold apps, been on TEDtalks, run youth coding programs, and is now in the process of launching into the next big thing: augmented reality. In todays interview, Thomas sits down with Sathya and Brock to discuss navigating his entire young life as an engineer, and also to tell them about the creation of Teleportal, the next step in AR technology (we won't spoil it here, listen in the interview). Keep with Thomas and his projects on Instagram and Twitter (@tomthecarrot) and be sure to check out Teleportal at https://teleportal.app/!
