It’s #worldsleepday . A day after my own heart for sure. However, you can’t sleep on a weekend with your social media.

So, it’s the weekend, it’s time to see friends, family and go on adventures, especially as the weather is so nice at the moment.

However, don’t let the weekend be an excuse for you to do nothing for your audience. Don’t forget, social media doesn’t switch off for the weekend, so you need to keep talking to them, especially as usage rates go up at the weekend as people have more time on their hands.

This doesn’t mean you have to post more often (although that wouldn’t hurt), but, just don’t forget them altogether just because it’s your time off.

Happy #stpatricksday a day of celebration in Ireland. Legend has it he's the man who drove snakes out of Ireland which is a perfect opportunity to speak about social media snakes.....more commonly known as trolls.

I sometimes actually think of social media trolls in the same way. The have no place in the world but sadly they exist and there’s not a huge amount we can do to eradicate them but we can do our best to stop them in their track.

One of the things I try to live by is “it’s none of my business what anyone else thinks of me”. Easier said than done I know, but that helps me make sure I press go on all my content. However, when the trolls hit, sometimes it’s difficult. There’s a few things you can do though,

1. Kill them with kindness, there’s usually someone with a whole lot of hurt behind the hate, so talk to them super nicely, I’ve usually got them round to my side of things by doing this

2. Ignore them completely, this doesn’t help interaction on your content but it does usually cheese them off

3. Remember they’re helping the algorithm push your content further as their interaction, even negative is interaction on your content and the software sees this, so respond to them (nicely preferably), and keep responding as all that lovely interaction improves your algorithm score and gets your content seen by more people

The main thing to remember is point number 3 really, yes they must be a hateful person to feel the need to blindly troll people, but, the main thing is they’re helping your content, they’re certainly not hindering it by watching it and commenting on it. So what I say is “I LOVE TROLLS”.

What speech will you be making today?

Today is #worldspeechday a chance for your voice to be heard and also a huge opportunity for you to overcome the fear of speaking to people.

This is one of the great things about video content and especially live content. It allows you to speak to your audience without being able to see them, so without you getting scared of a crowd in front of you.

Remember, all the content you're putting out every single day is giving value, and you're a voice of authority in your area of expertise, so it's time to start showing people that, and showing people you.

If you make any mistakes, remember, it's not open heart surgery, nobody is dead because you said the wrong thing, just correct yourself and move on.

YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS WEEKEND CUSTOMER SERVICE TOO

Nobody has ever said starting or running your own business is easy, it’s not.

Building a relationship with you and your customers is also just as hard. It takes a whole lot of patience and hard work. This is the same when it comes to growing a social media audience, patience is paramount.

I’ve spoken often about patience, and many businesses and brands just don’t have it. When you’re creating content you need to work on the basis of value, and even more scarily for many businesses, giving it for FREE.

So many people in industry currently are terrified of giving away too much information to potential customers, especially for FREE. For some reason we have it instilled into us that if someone knows how something is done they’ll go ahead and do it themselves rather than paying us for the service.

I understand the principles of thermo dynamics, it doesn’t mean I could pop over to the states and start working for NASA.

What we as business owners need to understand is people love to be given value. If you’re an accountant, don’t be afraid to help people with information that’ll help them do their tax returns. If you’re an electrician, what’s stopping you teaching people how to re-wire a plug, or hang a light?

Doing these type of things in blog, video and audio formats will really help you grow your brand and business. You’ll become that voice of authority, that not only knows what they’re doing, but are brave enough to help people do things themselves. Your followers will become raving fans and start to share you content due to the value, and that’s when you really succeed as a business as you can drop the ask in i.e. do you need help with your taxes this year? Does your home need a new RCD box to be in line with legislations? and people will come to you for that help.

This process however, isn’t quick to give your an ROI, and it’s hard work, but what in life that’s worth having isn’t hard work?

Don’t be afraid to give away your best stuff, it’ll help you win in the long run.

Today is #plantaflowerday and as we head into the weekend this is one of those jobs that many of us will put off. The thing is, just like social media, if we put it off too long like weekend content, then the flowers just won't grow the way we want them too, and potentially won't bare the fruit, vegetables or flowers we really want them too. So, let's chat about why you should be posting content on a weekend.

World Plumbing Day - The Social Media Podcast by Simon Scholes

On today of all days it's worth celebrating your awesomeness on social media. I often speak about how you should be helping people remove a pain point with your marketing. giving them value over everything else.....however, let's face it, we're all in business to actually make MONEY.....There, I said it, selling and MONEY really are not dirty words.

Trust me I "HATE" selling, it's a necessary evil for me to keep my business alive and me and my team doing what we love....creating content for your brands. On #proofreading day I thought I'd have a chat with you about social media mistakes, or more to the point, PERFECTION.

So many people get caught up in the need for creating perfect content that they simply never post ANYTHING. They've got a photo album on their phone filled with photographs and videos they've started but never finished creating or editing.

Trust me, when it comes to social media, it's not brain surgery. There are 1000's of agencies and "GURUS" who'll try to convince you otherwise, but, social media is simple. It's about understanding who your audience is and then talking to them If you make a mistake all social media platforms have the option to edit (well except twitter), or you can delete your post and try again. As long as you don't literally do something totally unforgivable on your social media, it's all good.

So, on proofreading day, don't worry about those spelling mistakes, those um's and er's, post that content, and where it can be, edit out the mistakes afterwards, after all, no matter what, the value is still in your content if you've spelt everything correctly or not.
