I recorded this podcast about a month ago and delayed releasing it as I thought it might come across as too harsh or mean. Then I came to my senses and realized I am a very blunt and direct person, either you like that approach or you don't like me.

One of my biggest enemies over the years was Ego. One of my favorite books of all time is "Ego Is The Enemy." I have been seeing a lot of Ego lately from people online in the bodywork profession and it will truly hold them back.

I only recognize it because I have for many years let Ego get the best of me and it kept me from reaching my true potential.

In this episode, I share a few instances of where I saw Ego rearing its ugly head from others out there and just gave some reality about how to not let it pull you down!

When I started The Soft Tissue Revolution 2 years ago I had one goal in mind, which was to solve the pain pill epidemic by helping people that are injured and pain get access to quality hands-on soft tissue treatments, so they don’t have to resort to pain pills, injections, and surgeries which ruin people’s lives and kill people.

I believe deep in my soul that the best treatment in the world is soft tissue-based and the best equipped to do so are in fact, massage therapists.

Unfortunately over the years, I have seen that I believe in massage therapists more than they believe in themselves.

It was painful to see how massage therapy was looked at during COVID, being shut down first and deemed non-essential without even a shred of fighting it.

Massage therapists SHOULD and NEED to be taken seriously as first-line health care providers when it comes to injury treatment, yet they take a back seat to a bunch of other professions that don’t do much of anything.

The worst part is that a lot of the lack of respect for massage therapy is at the profession's own doing and in this episode I share 3 reasons why massage therapy isn’t looked at as a viable health care provider.

It might hurt to hear the truth, but as they say, the truth will set you free and my goal is to motivate massage therapists to take the rightful place as a true healthcare provider and recognize that things have to change in order for people to realize that massage just isn’t a service, it’s a true solution for any musculoskeletal injury.

One of my main focuses and goals of creating The Soft Tissue Revolution was to help people that are injured and in pain get access to quality hands-on soft tissue treatment, which is clearly the safest, most effective, and durable treatment option out there. I knew the group of practitioners best equipped to deliver those world-class treatments are massage therapists; not chiropractors, physical therapists, or personal trainers!

As I have been growing my system and teaching it to LMT's I keep seeing the same problems that I have been talking about, mostly along the lines of not being taken seriously as a healthcare provider and spending too much focusing on providing a service, instead of a solution.

When this happens you get those clients that are a complete nightmare, rude, late, cancel last minute, and just don't respect you. Even though there aren't that many of them and the majority of your clientele are great, when you know that person is on your schedule it can completely ruin your day!

In this episode, I share a great story from last week where I had to fire a problem client, the fallout from it, and some strategies you can implement right away to get rid of those problem clients and not worry about it!

I have been very vocal over the years and especially on this podcast about my non-wavering belief that the best treatment method to fix injuries and pain is with quality hands-on soft tissue treatment. I went all-in on that and know it is the truth, hell I even called this podcast The Soft Tissue Revolution, so I'm fully committed!

I have been noticing a troubling trend for some time now, that has gotten worse with the COVID nonsense of the whole "self-treatment" movement of people out there, who have no business giving any advice on injuries, "showing" people how to "fix" their injury on their own. I used a lot of parentheses there to emphasize my point that it is ridiculous.

Usually, I let it go and let those people just spew off nonsense, but this week I saw several massage therapists sharing these ideas as well and even saw a training module on LinkedIn for "how to perform self-massage," by a Massage Therapist. 

There is a big problem going on when you start to recommend "self-treatment" to your clients. What you should be doing instead is recommending self-care instead and in this episode, I go over the difference and give you some tactics to make sure your clients know when they are injured and in pain, the best option is to come in and get treatment from you!

This was an impromptu podcast that came together during a coaching call with one of our Peak Method trained practitioners, Ari. We got on the topic of the importance of making sure you make your own health a priority as a bodyworker, being sure that if you are going to give health advice you need to practice what you preach and look the part.

We also dove into the concept that not everything that comes into your office is strictly just a tissue problem, there can be other factors and layers to the injury, and recognizing this can make or break the treatment process for your client.
