I have been very outspoken over the last 1.5 years about how I truly believe that hands-on soft tissue injury treatment is by far the best treatment modality in the entire world. Better than traditional physical therapy, superior to a chiropractic adjustment (that is coming from someone with a chiropractic degree😮) and don't even get me started on why orthopedic surgeons just make things worse...

What I keep running into as I am connecting, training, and sharing my soft tissue treatment methods to massage therapists is the same problem, they aren't being taken seriously as a health care provider. 

Now a lot of that is the profession's own damn fault and the blame goes to the schools as well, but a good portion of the blame goes directly to the therapist as they continue to be put into a subservient role to their clients. At the end of the day you are either a service provider or a solutions provider, you can't be both and only one gets taken seriously as a health care provider.

A BIG mistake I made for many years, and still see almost every massage therapist make is putting their prices directly on their website. We have been trained to be honest and upfront about pricing, because clients are going to ask. 

It took me a long time to realize I was making a huge mistake with this and it was costing me more money and potential clients.

One of my favorite things to do is to connect with soft tissue practitioners from all over the world, even better when they reach out and ask for my advice on an issue that is bothering them.

I got a great question from O'Jaria, a massage therapist from South Carolina, and wanted to use it on the podcast to help others struggling with the same problem.

Here's the question:

"Okay, so I’ve been a Massage therapist in South Carolina for almost two years. And it’s as though people want me to your torture them with pressure, which was not how I was taught or internally lead to do massage. I have more of a gradual approach. I’m aware of origin and insertion, and I just don’t believe in brutally using pressure across origin/insertion points until it’s time. And even when I do, it’s deep, but it’s nice and slow so that the client can properly adjust to the depth. 

I’ve been on a couple of interviews and it’s like they are basically saying that I’m not deep enough. I just feel as though I don’t rush into my technique. My leverage is excellent I feel, and I’m a pretty big girl so applying the pressure is never an issue. How should I respond to clients/employers without coming off defensive? Is my approach ineffective?"

I have always been a true student of human nature, looking to understand why people do the things they do and react in certain ways. Needless to say, the last year has been quite an interesting experiment in looking at human nature through the lens of all the craziness that is going on.

An early mentor of mine always taught me to take a step back and really evaluate what is going on in any given situation, as there is always a lesson or insight to learn.

In this episode of the podcast, I look at how shortsighted and irrational human beings can truly be by examining their response to COVID, helping to bring out some great lessons to help in your own practice and navigating our crazy world. I don't know about the rest of you, but 2020 was the wildest, craziest, and the most unpredictable year I have ever experienced in my 35 years on this planet. The world as we know it is forever changed, some of it really bad, but some of it really good. Over the past 2 weeks, I took some time off from everything (partially because I had no internet for 2 weeks as I moved into a new house.) 

At first, I was pissed about not being as connected as I want to be, but after spending time in deep reflection and thought I was able to really think about what I learned in this chaotic year.
