"The Sun Machine is Coming Down and We’re Gonna Have a Party"

CHRIS TOFU artistic director of Continental Drifts, lies down on the Bureau’s couch for a session of psycho(delic)analysis. We take a rambling trip through the British free festival scene of the 70s, 80s and 90s - with deviations into the lost worlds of Europe’s squatting scene, the new age travelers and guerilla gigs. And we hear about Chris’s crazy countercultural life getting lost at Stonehenge as a wide-eyed 15-year-old from Devon, being 'Bez’ in anarcho-punk-celtic-squattng band Tofu Love Frogs and gigging in a thousand fields along the way.

POW! Power of Women festival takes place on the ancient isle of Thanet which comprises Margate, Ramsgate Broadstairs & Birchington. 'Composers on Film' host Gemma Dempsey, herself a Ramsgatian, asked a number of the amazing women taking part to send her a voice memo introducing themselves, how they were involved in POW! and to nominate a track by their favourite female artist. Participants include writers, performers, a death doula, the creator of a crochet installation inspired by local 'mermads', a descendent of a suffragette and an archivist of Greenham Common, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and begins with Amy Redmond, POW! Artistic Director.

Wonderful varied voices and an awesome playlist featuring:

Robyn with Rokysopp, Grace Petrie, Diana Ross, Sleater-Kinney, Tracey Chapman, Sara Bareilles, Patti Smith, The Raincoats, Betty Davis -along with a few chosen by Gemma - Dinah Shore, Chaka Khan and Nina Simone - Enjoy!

Working in the office together for an organisation at the heart of UK jazz, Beth Hopkins and Jelly Cleaver spend every day entertaining each other with their bizarre, jazz-based puns.

Eventually, their office got tired of them making themselves cry with laughter and as a joke suggested they should have their own show. They took this seriously and started a podcast sharing all the hottest gossip from the buzzing London jazz scene.

Now that podcast’s a radio show with a truly insider’s look at the UK jazz scene, interviews with some of its leading lights and music featuring a few of it’s freshest releases.
