The head of the FBI has inserted himself into the presidential race, much to the dismay and disapproval of the Clinton camp and Democrats on the Hill. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says that that FBI Director James Comey may have broken the law by violating the Hatch Act. Former U.S. Attorney Generals, Democratic and Republican, have spoken out against Comey's decision. Of course, there is glee on the Trump side, with Donald accusing Hillary of committing crimes that are more serious than Watergate, meaning they are impeachable.

Meanwhile, national polls are showing a drop for Hillary and a race that is now neck and neck, increasing the possibility of a Trump presidency. Our guest is Jackie Goldberg, who has served on the Los Angeles City Council as well as a state elected official.

And – the death penalty is on the agenda for voters in California on Election Day. Propositions 62 and 66 will both will have national implications. Tom Hayden, considered the voice of a generation of anti-war activists, and controversial leader of what was known as the New Left, died on Sunday October 23rd in Santa Monica California at the age of 76. Born and raised in a white suburb of Detroit, to a mother who was a librarian and a father who was an accountant for Chrysler Motors, he was first trained in the southern civil rights movement, as a student he joined Students for a Democratic Society. His activism took him South to become a Freedom Rider, to Newark NJ to fight racism in the North, to North VN in protest of the VN war, to being beat by Chicago police during protests of the Democratic National Convention in 1968. His case was part of what became known as the Chicago 7. He later became an elected official in California where he served 18 years. After leaving elected office he founded the Peace and Justice Resource Center now known as the Democracy Project.

In this hour, we honor the life of Tom Hayden and speak to five people who knew him and his activism best. Our guests are Alan Haber, a long-time activist and the first president of Students for a Democratic Society, who recruited Hayden to join the group; Martha Prescod Noonan, a Civil Rights organizer and member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee; Junius Williams, a scholar and justice advocate who worked with Tom on the Newark Community Union Project; Alex Sanchez, the young founder and executive director of Homies Unidos in Los Angeles; and Austin McCoy, a political organizer and post-doctoral fellow at the University of Michigan who draws deep inspiration from Hayden's work.
