"Deafness is the absence of hearing while impairment is the loss of some hearing." Many in the Deaf Culture have angry towards the wording of being called hearing impaired. The word impaired means that in this case an ear organ is broken, damaged or weakened. So, whether you are in the Deaf classification of hearing loss or have a mild, moderate, severe, or profound sense of hearing loss your broken ear organ is weakened or damaged to some degree.
