In Second Samuel twenty-two, David offers a song of praise, and it was written during his last years on earth. He’s testifying of how gracious God is, and I think you’ll be encouraged by it.

  • 2 Samuel 21 1-14b
I don’t have to take a poll of our listeners to say that we’ve all been guilty of not keeping a promise. While we fail to keep our promises on occasion, God never does. He’s a promise giving God and a promise keeping God! This shines through in Second Samuel twenty-one, which is where we’re headed today on Sound Doctrine.

Today on Sound Doctrine we take you to Second Samuel twenty-one, where there was a national calamity taking place in that day . King David did what we should do. He turned to God in prayer. It was a time for David to be seeking the Lord, and pastor Jeff Johnson says we should do the same.

  • 2 Samuel 20b
eff is currently taking us verse by verse through the Old Testament book of Second Samuel. There is one central figure in this book, and that of course is David. But there are a whole bunch of other people as well - some good and some bad. Last time, in Second Samuel twenty, a man named Joab - one of David’s main guys, got some help from a wise woman, and it all results in a head being thrown over a wall! Goodness!

  • 2 Samuel 20a
King David led quite a life. He had incredible highs, and some mind-numbing lows as well. Today we see him once again threatened by someone who wanted to take over - this time a rebel named Sheba. This guy was pretty charismatic - he told the men of Israel that they should abandon David, and so they did. David also had a man named Joab to contend with.

  • 2 Samuel 19 9-43b
How do you normally respond to those who have hurt you, or done you wrong? The world would say, get em back! Give them a taste of their own medicine. But God would have us go in a far different direction, and it’s modeled by King David in the story before us. David is about to show tremendous compassion and mercy to the people who wronged him, and that should be our response too.

  • 2 Samuel 19 9-43a
Today we continue pastor Jeff’s study in Second Samuel nineteen. There are many great men and women in the Bible. Some and more well-known than others. One of those unsung heroes is a man named Mephibosheth. I’ll let pastor Jeff tell the story, but this man with the long name showed a very great amount of wisdom and Godliness when he met up with King David.
