Sounders Scuttlebutt

Match 1 of Round 1 is complete and the Sounders win at home 2-0 against FC Dallas. The first round was certainly entertaining if not surprising with SKC walloping the number #1 seed St. Louis CITY and LAFC putting VAN to bed after an exciting first half. BUT AGGREGATE DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE!We discuss:

• How was the first year of Apple TV?
• An MLS player wins the Gold Ball!
• How much was FIFA paid for 2034?
• Was that the worst refereed Sounders MLS match?
• Can the Sounders play a little loose now in match 2?

The 2023 MLS regular season is over and the playoffs have begun. With the Wild Card round complete the first round of the new format begins on October 28th with our Sounders facing FC Dallas in the first leg of a best of 3 series on Monday the 30th at Lumen. Our pal and Alliance Council Secretary, Nicholaus Biela, joins the show to discuss:

• Year end award finalists (and non finalist)
• Nico says sayonara, Sounders.
• New Year resolutions retrospection
• SEAvFCD: Similar paths will be crossed

After a thrilling midweek match against LA Galaxy the Sounders couldn't find the back of the net (again) for their last regular season home match on Saturday night versus the Whitecaps. Good news is neither could they and we continue to not lose!

• Messi and the Herons couldn't cut it
• Alaska Airlines has had enough of Portland
• Vanni Sartini is a character
• Was Nico waving goodbye?
• How do the Sounders approach St. Louis?

With a strong draw against Nashville and then a diligent and euphoric victory over the Galaxy it certainly seems that we've found our happy thought and are about to take off.

• Will Miami make it?

• Rapinoe's final match

• Should MLS create a Central Conference?

• Dominance followed by listlessness but saved by Cristian vs LA

• Solid result against Nashville considering the circumstances

We recorded a day late because Cameron too was busy attending the launch of one of the bigger moments in club history. AND WE HAVEN'T LOST IN OVER A MONTH!

The Seattle Sounders are... still the Seattle Sounders but with a simplified yet similar, intrinsic, look. We talk about the new 50th anniversary branding transition and is this coinciding with a rebirth for both the club and the play on the pitch?

• No Messi, no trophy Rapinoe's last match.
• The rebranding launch party from Cameron's POV
• Is Rusnák the leader of this club in 2024?
• Cater to tenure or play the productivity?

We stopped losing! Draw against Minnesota, a win (a fucking WIN!) down in Austin and a disheartening(maybe?) draw against PDX at home. That's 5 points out of 9 and a week of rest before Dallas. The Scuttlebutt:

• Who Stays/Leaves/Retires?

• Was the Portland match a net positive or negative?

• Lay off Leo

• What's needed to WIN in Dallas?

The woes continue for the Sounders. Coming back from an unwanted but perhaps needed 3 week break the Seattle Sounders fell 0-2 against ATL. They're still in a good playoff position at 4th in the West but with Minnesota, Austin (both playoff contenders) and recently beheaded Portland in the span of 7 days we're about to see if this team can gain some positive momentum or continue to remain middling.

• World Cup wraps up

• Green Lake represent! Little League World Series.

• Nouhou got targeted by ATL and it worked.

• Why? What? How?

• Bookend this form with Portland

• New Sounder at Heart site information

The Sounders exited the Leagues Cup as terribly as you can. They gave up 7 goals and scored 2 in 180 minutes and those 2 came within minutes of each other at the onset of their last match against C.F. Monterrey.

The Sounders find themselves lacking a consistent identity but will return to MLS play still in a viable playoff position with 10 matches left. But until then... what do they need to do to fix the issue NAY what is even the issue?!

Jackson Felts of Sports Radio KJR and good friend joins the show to help us figure that out.

• Jackson's origin story

• Are the Sounders fixable or is it rebuild time?

• What's one question you'd ask Schmetzer?

• Do we make the playoffs?

• Cameron and Jackson on the call for All Time Sonics vs All Time Thunder

The Sounders flopped in Sandy. Not that a win is to be expected there but the performance was once of the worst efforts we've seen in a long while. Oh, and Miami is friggin good now. Like damn.

Aaron and Cameron crack open beers with a good friend, AO Seattle activist, Alliance Council constituent, Pub League puppeteer and reoccurring guest of Scuttlebutt, Nicholaus Biela!

• THE BETTER WORLD CUP

• Club Internacional de Fútbol Messi

• MLS Roster Rules and the Sounders signing options

• Is there a quick fix for Monterrey?

• We didn't mention anything about the All Star "match"

We took a week off from recording to allow these last 3 matches to occur.

We should've just done number 51 after Vancouver... Because the Seattle Sounders continue to dabble a little in dominating mediocrity falling to 4th in the Western Conference at the Leagues Cup break. Oh and they can't score goals... but will Roldan be our Superman?

Aaron & Cameron discuss:

• Reign'ing on the World Cup! 8 Reign players representing.

• Rapinoe retiring after 2023

• Jackson Felts debuting as Play x Play July 22nd! Here's a taste of Felts

• MLS All Star stuff but only for like a minute.

• How does Messi and Co. affect the league

• Cristian is ours again. Will he glue this back together?

• What's our optimal lineup?

• Our positive and our negatives from the last 3 matches.

• Lot's of great Scuttlebutt mailbag questions! That means....
