Volume 74 with The Great Gildersleeve November 23, 1949 episode.  This is the show where the winner was announced of the Name That Gildersleeve Song contest.  Also you’ll hear the Jolly Boys as they want to form their own band with Gildy on the trombone.

Now for an explanation, we had to skip this show when it was originally scheduled after Sounds Like Radio's Vol. 73 (that was the 11/16/49 episode) BECAUSE this episode mentions Thanksgiving that is coming up. So while I wouldn’t call this a Thanksgiving show, it is mentioned, so we saved it for now at this “more convenient hour” or in this case more relevant time period.

By the way that's Tammy Wynette (seen in our fall type picture on our Anchor podcast site next to this show) who will sing a moving song in today's show.

Today from February 8, 1950 we find Gildy’s niece and her fiancé having their first “discussion”.  Never fear Gildy will fix it, or will he?  Find out as you enjoy the musical stylings of Dean Martin, sultry Lola Albright, Bing Crosby, Dinah Washington, Don Williams, Gordon Jenkins & Jimmy Durante!

Sterling Holloway will also be on hand to straighten out the mystery of his song from “Remember the Night” that we talked about in Sounds Like Radio Vol. 80.   You can see in our show’s featured picture today Sterling singing the song from the movie with Barbara Stanwyck.

You've seen the movie, now hear the radio version direct from the Vast Library of Sound to you.   Bing Crosby & Ann Blyth get together to perform this movie on the Lux Radio Theater on September 26, 1949.   Back in the good old days you couldn't buy the movie on video or disc if you wanted to experience the movie at home you'd have to find the radio adaptation being performed and hope you caught it when it was on.   Hmm, no recordings of radio shows, no videos, no discs, no TV who said these were the good old days anyway?

We’ve featured so many holiday episodes recently you may have forgotten about the date that brung us, the Great Gildersleeve & Music like you just don’t hear anymore.

Today Gildy wants to learn to do the Samba & it ain’t gonna be pretty.  From Feburary 1, 1950 comes a 2 steppin’ Gildy show with music from Sergio Mendes, Dean Martin, Bette Midler, Bing Crosby, Astrud Gilbeerto & Al Jolson.

Sounds Like Radio’s Library of Sound Volume 45 is proud to present for the first time a radio detective classic that I’ve loved since I first heard it. It’s Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar st. the best Johnny Dollar – Bob Bailey!

This show has always reminded me of my favorite TV detective show, Mannix. This is like a radio version of Mannix and I think you’re going to enjoy it as much as I. Here is an episode called “The Kirby Will Matter” originally broadcast February 2, 1957.  But it’s here now direct from the Vast Library of Sound just for you.

Your Humble Host returns with a Halloween classic tale on Sounds Like Radio's Library of Sound Volume 5.   It's the show that scared me the most when I listened in the dark.   Do so if you dare.   From August 9, 1948 hear now "Quiet Please" and "The Thing On The Fourble Board".   This one will creep up on you when you least expect it.   Time to shudder, turn out the lights, it's Halloween.   Let's listen...
