We're announcing a new project from Southpaw: Fighter's Brew. An All-Rounder Meguru recap show.
All-Rounder Meguru is a manga by Hiroki Endo that ran from 2008 to 2016. It's a series that's as much about youth as it is about martial arts and what happens to our passions once we become adults.
Like Southpaw: Deep Space Nine, each episode will be released first on Patreon. We'll release each season in its entirety on the Southpaw public feed as we finish them. So if you're not part of our Patreon, all you need to do is wait, and you'll get all the episodes. If you don't want to wait and want to listen to them early without any breaks for product and Patreon plugs, sign up for our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/southpawpod
We'll also be incorporating Fighter's Brew into our Liberation Martial Arts curriculum. Patrons who are part of the Liberation Martial Arts program or in a higher tier will get transcripts of each episode with more explanations of the techniques and concepts, along with commentary from the LMA perspective. Pictures from the manga will also be incorporated as illustrations: https://www.patreon.com/posts/liberation-arts-72505630
So if you like Southpaw, if you like martial arts, if you like manga, please check out and support Fighter's Brew.

"We've all seen the memes of how like, 'you can tell your neighborhood is getting gentrified when there's a Starbucks and a yoga studio.' But I think in a lot of ways, expensive martial arts are also an indicator of that, too. And for those same reasons because those things are not meant for the people that already live there. They're meant for the people they're trying to attract to those areas. So having a place that is meant for the people who are already there, who are being systematically neglected is also important."
Sam speaks with Myles and Jelani from the Neighborhood Martial Arts Project (NMAP) about running a community-oriented martial arts gym.

Sam speaks with Laurien and Alex from Off the Zone about trauma and trauma-informed coaching. Though our discussion is centered on martial arts, it's an episode that'll benefit school teachers, therapists, bodyworkers, parents, partners, students, fitness and wellness instructors, and everyone else because we all need to be trauma-informed. None of us are immune to trauma.
As a note to listeners, this episode discusses sexual assault. Be advised.

There were some shaky moments but Scott and Sam have made it to the final episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, season 1, "In the Hands of the Prophets." You can watch it first and then listen to this episode, you can listen then watch, or you can skip it altogether and just listen to us give you the play-by-play along with political commentary.

On this episode, Scott and Sam are discussing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "Duet," with historian Dr. James Robinson. This is longer than our usual episodes because we dig into the brutal history of Western colonialism, the occupation of Palestine, the West's love-hate relationship with Nazis, rewarding and praising war criminals, the xenophobic and nativist inconsistencies within the ACAB movement, differentiating the system from the individual, and how to become a better Leftist by drawing from other disciplines.
You can watch it first and then listen to this episode, you can listen then watch, or you can skip it altogether and just listen to us give you the play-by-play along with political commentary. (Note: We are going by the Netflix order of episodes.)
