We speak with trainer, fitness writer, and gym owner Chris Bathke to go over three different training scenarios: a young athlete looking to improve their athleticism, a middle-aged person looking to lose weight and get fit, and an older person (or a person coming off of injury) looking to reclaim their strength. From there we branch off into various other situations that commonly arise. And by using three broad topics, we were able to cover a lot of ground.

We sit down with author and sociologist Nadia Y. Kim to discuss Asian Pacific American history, Asian Pacific representation in mainstream media (e.g., Crazy Rich Asians, Always Be My Maybe, Sorry to Bother You, Do the Right Thing), the 1992 Los Angeles unrest, racial triangulation, model minority divide & conquer, colorism amongst East Asians and South Asians, racism as a part of neoliberal capitalism, US imperialism, sexual politics and fetishization, the "white gaze" as a byproduct of white supremacy, religious politics and mental health stigma, hip hop and the history of beats, interethnic solidarity, and so much more. We're really proud of this episode and the information that's been presented, and we hope this can serve as an engaging and accessible resource for those of you who might have never taken courses on race & ethnicity but were interested in learning.
Nadia is a professor of sociology at Loyola Marymount University and the 2018-19 Thomas Tam Visiting Professor at the City University of New York Graduate Center. (She also happens to be one of Paul's college professors.) She's the author of "Imperial Citizens: Koreans and Race from Seoul to LA" (https://amzn.to/2G4z8L9) and she's also in the midst of writing her second book "We the Polluted People: Immigrant Generations Remake Citizenship Via Race, Class, Gender & the Body." Also in the interview, we referenced her article for Racism Review: "Why Kim Jong Il Jokes Aren’t Funny" (http://www.racismreview.com/blog/2009/06/16/why-kim-jong-il-jokes-arent-funny/).

This is fight study, where we use professional fights to study the science and art of fighting. We go layers deep, not just to go inside baseball for the superfans, but also to give rich insight for those who want to improve their own skills.
On this episode, we analyze Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos, Amanda Nunes vs. Holly Holm, Jorge Masvidal vs. Ben Askren, Michael Chiesa vs. Diego Sanchez, and Gilbert Melendez vs. Arnold Allen. And then Sam spends some time debunking a lot of the misinformation spread by MMA's IDW and the UFC propaganda machine.

Today we talk to mental health expert and internationally best-selling author Amy Morin about how the Internet made her famous (in a good way), how as therapist some of her best lessons didn't come from school but from the strength of her patients, and how when you're dealing with grief, even a small amount of control can help you feel less powerless. Prepare to take notes because we cover a lot in this episode.

Today we sit down with historian, author, and podcaster David Parsons of the Nostalgia Trap podcast to cover a variety of topics that are rarely discussed in-depth: from the nostalgia trap of Ken Burns documentaries, anti-capitalism, the Vietnam War, loneliness and the search for community, Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky as gateway to psychedelics and Terence McKenna, reactionary hippies, and then the often most ignored part of the Left—Left physical culture. Things such as sports, working out, and MMA, and how that can not only function as a way to maintain mental health and community for activists, but also work as a natural bridge to talk about labor and teamwork with sports fans.

Comic book movies are inherently political. When it's about a global catastrophe, that's political. When you world-build, that's political. When you have characters so powerful they can own the world, that's political. Whether the writers intend to or not, comic book movies are political thought experiments. And that's why they're such wonderful teaching tools for politics, especially for those who think they're only interested in the entertainment aspect.
For this topic, we brought on political writer and movie reviewer Matthew Rozsa to discuss the politics within the "Avengers" as well as other comic book movies.
Matthew Rozsa holds an MA in History from Rutgers University-Newark and is ABD in his PhD program in History at Lehigh University. His work has appeared in Salon, Mic, Quartz, and MSNBC.

The MMA gods blessed up with a ridiculously stacked card for this episode. We study Henry Cejudo vs. Marlon Moraes, Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Eye, and Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone.
