Jason and Jon get back into the music, and head in the letter L! They discuss a few classic b-sides, and at least one "holy grail" of an unreleased song. Plus, more Mark McGrath content!

Jason and Jon are back after a brief hiatus to catch up on all the Pumpkin news that's fit to print! On this "catch up" episode they discuss the pending release of "Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun." and Billy's new (as yet untitled) solo album. Jason also recounts his experience seeing the Shiny and Oh So Bright tour. All this, and more, as SP - A to Z makes it triumphant (?) return!

Much like last week’s episode, Jon and Jason tackle all of the “K” songs in this show, including: a studio outtake produced by Flood and Alan Moulder, a song that could be in a retro video game, a spacey instrumental from the Mellon Collie era, and a track featured in “Pastichio Medley.” They also talk about Space Mountain, “Tetris Dreams,” and receive some listener e-mail.

To bring the show to a good halfway point before going on a short hiatus next week, Jon and Jason tackle all of the “J” songs in this episode, including: Billy’s only jazz song (so far), a Mellon Collie track that almost became a single, three songs about Jesus, and two home demos that rank among Billy’s all-time best. They also try to figure out why Jason doesn’t like “classic rock,” discuss songs that incorporate voice mails and answering machine messages, and remember a spooky coincidence from the 90’s.

Jon and Jason wrap up the “I”’s this week, with album tracks from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Oceania, and Machina II, two Adore demos, a song that only appears on the vinyl version of Mellon Collie, and a song by Billy Corgan’s short-lived power trio: The Backwards Clock Society.

Jon and Jason kick things off this week with their reactions to the “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour – going over the setlist, and the strange imagery that was unveiled at the first show. They also discuss seven more “I” songs, including a track from TheFutureEmbrace, two songs from the 2007 residency shows (which inspires a soapbox rant from Jason about the way those shows were reported), songs from Machina I and II, and a song featured in the “Pastichio Medley” sound collage.

Despite coming out at the peak of the Smashing Pumpkins’ fame, Billy Corgan’s “Ransom” movie soundtrack is still a relatively obscure and overlooked chapter in his career. This week Jon and Jason dive into these six songs, with some fun stories and tangents added along the way.

Jon and Jason continue the “I” songs this week, with a short a capella tune, a FutureEmbrace outtake that was vetoed by Courtney Love, a standout track from MACHINA, and a rare live song that may or may not be an early version of “Today.” They also discuss the hidden track on Gish, which leads to a bigger conversation about hidden tracks and other things they miss from the CD-era.

This week, Jon and Jason kick off the I’s with a “royal sampler” of rarities and deep cuts. Including: a sludgy song from the Mashed Potatoes bootleg, an unreleased live song from 2008, and “I Fall” – an early demo that Billy recently turned into a beautiful piano song. Also discussed is the Gish track “I Am One,” and its obscure sequel, “I Am One Part 2.”

After a busy few months, Jon and Jason are finally back this week to finish up the “H” songs, including: standout tracks from Siamese Dream and MACHINA II, a b-side released by Sub Pop, and the very first Zwan single. They also give their first impressions of “Solara,” the new Smashing Pumpkins song featuring the return of James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin.
