Jon and Jason get back to the music this week (well, mostly…), discussing one of the best b-sides from the Siamese Dream era, two different acoustic songs named “Here I Am,” a nostalgic Mellon Collie track, a deep cut from the MACHINA era, and a 1988 demo that’s hard to believe is a 1988 demo.

On the heels of one of the craziest Smashing Pumpkins news cycles in decades, Jon and Jason spend the first half of the episode going over the recent big announcement, some exciting smaller announcements, and the unfortunate drama that shadowed it all. Then they turn their attention back to the music: discussing one of the best songs from Ogilala, demos from Mellon Collie and Adore, a spacey Zwan song, and an iconic track from Machina.

This week, Jon and Jason talk about “Gossamer,” an epic live song that often clocks in over 30 minutes, plus: one of the few James Iha songs to make it onto a Smashing Pumpkins record, a Mellon Collie b-side that almost made the album, and the fourth and final song from the Pumpkins’ “Batman and Robin” era. They also wrap up another letter by choosing their favorite “G” song.

After a long holiday break, “SP: A to Z” is back, with a lot to talk about: Jon and Jason recap the shows they went to on the Ogilala tour (including a brief celebrity encounter), go over the recent news about Billy’s next acoustic album and his mysterious new project with Jimmy Chamberlin, and discuss songs from MACHINA, Oceania, the classic “No Alternative” compilation, and more.

“SP: A to Z” has its first special guest host this week, as Jon and Jason invite their good friend Jem (a musician and songwriter, with mixed feelings about the Smashing Pumpkins) to bring a fresh perspective to the podcast. The three of them discuss album tracks from Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, and Machina II, and two live songs from the Hideout in Chicago.

Jon and Jason finish up the F’s this week, with a couple of unreleased acoustic songs, and a powerhouse track from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. They also talk about the b-side that gave Jason a rare case of Smashing Pumpkins-related buyer’s remorse as a teenager.

Now that William Patrick Corgan’s new album, Ogilala, is here, Jon and Jason go back to the A’s this week to welcome four new songs into the fold: “Aeronaut,” “Amarinthe,” “Antietam,” and “Archer.” They also pay their respects to another musician who made a stripped-down album with Rick Rubin.

Jon and Jason discuss some major songs in the Billy Corgan catalogue this week, including “For Martha” (a heartfelt song about his mother’s passing), “For Your Love” (some would say his best unreleased song), and “Frail and Bedazzled” (a fan favorite from their b-sides album, Pisces Iscariot). They also try to figure out what exactly’s going on in the Zeitgeist track, “For God and Country.”

This week, Jon and Jason kick things off with a James Iha solo track that might be a lost Smashing Pumpkins song (and is definitely a lost classic). They also talk about a song where all four original Pumpkins members share lead vocals, a song that debuted in a car commercial during the Super Bowl, and a song with a whistle solo… A WHISTLE SOLO!

Jon and Jason have their work cut out for them this week, as they discuss three singles (including a Grammy winner), two very different movie soundtracks, and two great Zwan songs. They also get to recount Billy’s famous story about collaborating with David Lynch and Shaq (on the same song).
