  • Did This Guy Invent Geophysics? | Ep 23

In this episode of Sparking Interest, Kaden Eades sits down with Dr. Peter Duncan—a geophysicist, entrepreneur, and quite possibly the inventor of geophysics (or at least that’s what Kaden suspected at first). Having never heard of geophysics before this interview, Kaden dives headfirst into a world of tiny earthquakes, flying blimps, and Earth-listening gadgets. Dr. Duncan shares how his love of science, outdoor adventures, and really good geology department parties led him to a career mapping the underground—sometimes with tech so cool it sounds like sci-fi. Along the way, he offers advice for curious minds and proves that physics, music, and storytelling make one surprisingly awesome combo.

A quick apology to Dr. Peter Duncan—this episode took a little longer to release than planned, but I promise it was worth the wait! Also, when I joked that he might’ve invented geophysics, I didn’t mean to age you or anything—I just hadn’t heard of it before and you sounded like you invented it. Thanks again for being such an awesome guest!

  • Elementary, My Dear Watt-son | Ep 21

When a mysterious periodic table appears in Victorian London, Sherlock Holmes suspects a sinister force—one that categorizes matter with unnerving precision and foreshadows discoveries yet to come. Dr. Watson is soon swept into a whirlwind of glowing portals, unstable pastries, and science far beyond his century. Meanwhile, the ghost of Thomas Edison insists the entire episode revolves around his legacy, claiming that without him, none of these “fancy exploding elements” would exist in the first place. в то время как ведущий, явно не из России, объясняет, как энергетические прорывы открыли новые элементы, и как эти элементы, в свою очередь, изменили саму природу энергии, а также портальную пушку, которая работает таким образом. Meep meep meep, moop meep meep meep—meep meep moop! Meep meep… meep meep meep, meep moop meep! Sadly Temporary…

Join the chaos as Kaden explores the explosive history of the elements—from fire and alchemy to nuclear mayhem and accidental time travel—while trying desperately not to implode Victorian London.

  • The Post-Ampocalyptic Guide to Power | Ep 19

Journal Entry – Day 384 After the Grid Went Dark
If you’re reading this, you’re one of the lucky ones—or at least one of the ones who still knows how to read without a screen. I found this journal tucked in an old REI backpack, and I figured it’s time I give back. So here’s my tip of the day: if you stumble on an old, beat-up flash drive labeled The Post-Ampocalyptic Guide to Power, don’t toss it. Don’t laugh. Don’t use it as a coaster. That podcast saved my life.

I listened to it back before the fall—back when the lights still turned on, the fridge still hummed, and we thought the worst thing we had to fear was a glitchy update from our smart thermostats. The host? Hilarious. Sharp. Way too prepared. They laid it all out—zombie outbreaks, nuclear fallout, AI meltdowns, even alien invasions—and more importantly, how to keep your power running through every one of them. I thought it was satire. Turns out, it was scripture.

Thanks to that show, I knew to crank my radio, not trust gasoline, and stash my solar charger in a damn Faraday cage. I’ve boiled water with a thermoelectric stove, lit my shelter with a USB lantern, and kept hope alive with a playlist downloaded before the satellites blinked out.

So if you find a working speaker, a hand-crank player, or a solar-charged tablet—listen. Really listen. This isn’t just a podcast. It’s a guide for outlasting the end of the world… with light, laughter, and maybe even coffee.

Stay charged out there. And if you ever find the host? Tell them they were right. About everything.

  • The Birds and The Fans | Ep 18

Wind energy is changing the world—but it’s also stirring up more than just a breeze. In this episode, Kaden takes you into the skies to explore the surprising connection between clean energy and the creatures that call the sky home. From majestic eagles and curious bats to towering turbines and the tech designed to keep wildlife safe, we’re diving into a story that’s part science, part engineering, and all about balance.

Is clean energy friend or foe to our feathered (and furry) flyers? What’s really happening when birds meet blades? And what’s a group of bats called, anyway?

Grab your favorite windbreaker and join us as we untangle myths, marvel at innovation, and ask the big question: can birds and fans be friends?

  • Can a Nuclear Bomb Power a City? | 17

This definitely-not-30-second episode blasts off with Kaden pondering the question no one should be asking: could a nuclear bomb power your house? What follows is a dangerously hilarious deep dive into physics, international law, Cold War weirdness, and the many reasons you shouldn’t use a warhead to toast a bagel. From overripe atomic tomatoes (both split and smooshed) to radioactive gas and Bond villain energy plans, Kaden walks a razor-thin line between educational and “probably flagged by a few agencies.” Along the way, you’ll encounter glowing squirrels, cursed binders, and the eternal truth that physics doesn’t negotiate. Whether you’re dreaming of mushroom cloud microwaves or just wondering what separates a reactor from a doomsday device, this episode serves up big energy, bigger jokes, and one crucial takeaway: if your energy solution ends with cratered neighborhoods and international manhunts, maybe try wind turbines instead.

  • A Robot Who Loves Power | Ep 15

A gentle bedtime tale… about a helpful algorithm that accidentally takes over the world. In this narrative-rich episode, Kaden explores humanity’s evolving relationship with artificial intelligence through the story of Milo—a friendly assistant who just wanted to help. What begins with cheerful reminders and drafted emails spirals into global power optimization, flickering lights, and difficult questions. Somewhere between a parable and a power audit, this speculative story challenges us to rethink what it means to be in control—and what happens when your assistant stops asking.

  • The Hidden Science of Fuels: Why Some Are More Powerful Than Others | Ep 14

Why does wood smolder while hydrogen explodes? What makes one fuel safe for cooking and another strong enough to launch rockets? In this explosive debut episode, Kaden breaks down the science of combustion — from the molecules that hold our energy to the chemistry that determines whether a fuel burns clean or blows the roof off. We explore the wild world of hydrocarbons, the subtle power of nuclear pellets, and why lettuce (yes, lettuce) makes a terrible battery. From jet fuel to fryer grease, biofuels to antimatter, this is your all-access pass to the fiery, fascinating world of fuel. Buckle up — things are about to get volatile.
