Stone soup is an ancient story... a solution for homelessness... and a spot for you to grab lunch in Portland, OR.

Stone Soup just graduated its first crew.... the participants are folks in tough times, at risk of homelessness. But through this training program, they earn a career in the restaurant industry and you get to eat at a groovy lunch counter.

Ronit Gerard is the co-founder and a Foreign Service Officer for USAID. She says she and her husband are using their global skills to help create a solution here at home.

Educators now have to teach the holocaust and genocide in local schools and Oregon State University is taking the lead.

Facilitators are collaborating and training together, as they innovate and implement curriculum on the holocaust and genocide; it's now required by Oregon law.

Oregon is the 17th state to require this curriculum.

  *   THEY CURRENTLY OFFER 18 COURSES – SIX IN A GENRE SERIES, EIGHT IN AN INSTRUMENT SERIES, AND TWO IN A CAREERS IN MUSIC SERIES. THE NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC COURSE WILL BE THE FIRST COURSE IN A CULTURE SERIES.

  *   EACH COURSE CAN TAKE UP TO THREE MONTHS TO PRODUCE, AND THEY ARE CONSTANTLY UPDATING OLD COURSES.

  *   THE NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE MUSICAL STYLES, TRADITIONS AND INSTRUMENTS USED BY TRIBES THROUGHOUT NORTH AMERICA.
