  • EP #287 Why is it hard to be generous during the holidays?

The holidays are supposed to be "the most generous time of the year,"…

…but for ambitious professionals, they often feel rushed, performative, and exhausting.

Let's get real about why even generous people struggle during December. I have four simple shifts I make now to build authentic generosity into my life and work all year. These things weren't apart of my routines throughout the year until recently and they've helped me be more intentional during the holidays.

Stick around for a special invite to the new Feeling Generous email course (pre-launch now, starts Jan 6).

Have a generous rest of your year. πŸ˜€

  • EP #286 Ask these questions in your next interview.

Interviewing for a new role is hard.

Don't make it harder than it needs to be to stand out. A lot of interview advice is all about preparing great answers.

I'm not opposed to having an idea of how you want to respond to things but there is something that is more important.

It's the questions you ask. Make no mistake that your questions don't just seek information, they give it to.

What you ask and the way you ask it says a lot about yourself and shares something unique with and interviewer.

This topic is important when seeking and building generous workplace culture. Listen in and tell me what you think about these questions.

πŸŽ„Merry Christmas. Have a generous rest of your week. πŸ˜€

  • EP #285 Are You Relatable or Debatable?

    Are you relatable or debatable?

Had to go with the rhyming title this week. We talk a lot about being nice, kind, and having EQ these days but I think we might be missing something when it comes to being a great colleague - or person in general.

It's too easy to just to what everyone else is doing. In fact, I think it's easier than ever before to follow the crowd.

Standing it out is actually a big exercise in relating to the right people.

Some might say that being relatable is just being a "normal person" or not standing out too much.

What actually leads to growth is standing out in unique was that has elements of relatability to others.

This episode is all about helping you do that and not have a brand that's "debatable"

Have a generous rest of your week. πŸ˜€

  • EP #284 The C.A.S.E. for Generous Workplace Culture

Building workplace culture is hard but I have an easy way to understand it.

Most companies will try to find their culture by displaying a vision and values that's very noble.

But that doesn't make culture. It's the people.

    Hold up!

    It's not just the people.

You can't hire a bunch of nice guys and expect their to be a nice culture - or anything you desire.

Culture is built and not found. You need a process and strategy.

This is why I came up with the "case" for generous workplace culture.

I love a good acronym, so I had to drop this one for you.

Have a generous rest of your week. πŸ˜€

  • EP #283 How to Build Your Credibility

Everyone is shouting how credible they are these days.

If you're on social media, you've done it. Don't deny it.

πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈI'm as guilty as the next person but I've realized something really important about credibility these days.

Most people are trying to take it. Few are giving it.

This is because we don't understand want giving it really means and why people don't realize how important it is for them to make decisions.

This episode will teach you how to stop taking and start giving but you it's not the giving you probably think

Think about how much you give to your company, colleagues, and others in your life. If you think that's already a lot, consider this before moving on:

Giving your own credibility to others will do more for your impact than any skill ever could.

    Have a credible week. βœ”οΈ

  • EP #282 How to Get Recognized at Work

It's too easy to promote yourself these days.

    Or, is it?

Seems to me that there are a million ways to shout your name from the roofs tops but not very many that are successful.

However, we've been made to believe that it's a must to get anywhere in life and a career.

I have seen a lot of content recently about getting your boss to recognize you.

There's no doubt it's important to recognized. It helps you have confidence. It helps you improve with motivation. And it's just nice to noticed.

The problem is we have built environments that rely way too much on self-celebtation and it's ultimately limiting to our abilities and performance.

I have some strong thoughts on why we have these environments and some ideas of how to avoid them and the feeling of inadequacy.

After all, a generous culture can't have that.

    Have a recognizable week.πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

  • EP #281 Why Consistency is Hurting You

Developing talents is often a lot less than you think.

That doesn't make it easy. It just makes it simpler.

You have to make sure that people's confidence to contribute exists.

The actions you take consistently can make or break this. Be careful with some of the enveloping habits you may have.

They are often executed with great intentions but you forget how diverse your people are.

Everyone has a different perspective and set of skills. This doesn't mean you have to be all knowing but it does mean you have to admit you're not.

The best leaders have a great ability to make other leaders and a big part of this process is making sure you are feeding the beast and not starving.

Yes, I just called your business a beast. I mean that in the best of ways.

Make sure your development is more than a training course. It's got to be cultural.

    Have a week of growth.πŸ“ˆ

  • EP #278 Are You Thrilled to Build?

Start building your culture early - like day 1 early.

A lot of people hope that their people will "mesh well".

You can try to hire good people and expect them to help each other do good work. This is possible and not a bad idea.

What's a bad idea is ignoring the need to take specific steps - to build intentionally.

Even the best people need direction. Building workplace culture takes some effort but it's worth it.

And those great people you hired, they should also be building. In other words, make sure they know the type of culture and foundational aspects that are in place so they can contribute themselves on day 1 of their relationship with the company.

I hope you have a thrilling weekend. πŸ‘·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
