What is our life purpose? What is our spiritual life purpose? How can we balance our effort towards well-being with our spiritual surrender? This episode maps two paths: The "horizontal path" has its survival needs, daily responsibilities, self care, and right effort toward well-being and wellness, and this is perhaps our human life purpose: survival as a movement away from pain and toward pleasure, and thriving in well-being. (Though we can get caught in pleasure-seeking and pain avoidance). 

Then we have the "vertical path", and this is our spiritual life purpose. Here we move from suffering to enlightenment. The key of walking this path is knowing and accepting that both pain and pleasure together walk us up this path. Now we are not trying to run from pain towards pleasure but instead to take both pain and pleasure as our teachers and as steps towards something greater than both: full peace when we are neither avoiding nor grasping but trusting and including and being included in all.

To visualize this, consider 4 quadrants in an XY axis:

- The x axis is the wellness path that goes from pain on the left to pleasure on the right.

- The y axis is the enlightenment path that goes from suffering below to enlightenment above. 

- Note that as we walk the enlightenment path, we experience both pain to the left of us and pleasure to the right of us, equally, as we walk up the path. (You can also visualize a wave going up the y axis sometimes veering left (pain experiences) and sometimes veering right (pleasure experiences) but always ultimately going upward.

If patriarchy's wounds are about an inner split where we turn away from half of ourselves and life (the feminine, painful emotion, embodiment, interbeing) and end up in our "castle in the sky" of disembodiment, hyper-intellectualization, and spiritual bypass, then healing from this mechanism is reversing that road back down to groundedness. We must pass through the chasm of pain that led us to dissociate out of wholeness in the first place. Patriarchy is deeper than cultural institutions or social norms — its root is a spiritual wound. Patriarchy is the result of a soul-body split, a dissociation that includes disconnection from the body, loss of groundedness or connection with Mother Earth, and spiritual bypass. Our cultural wounds are physiological, emotional, and spiritual — severing us from our true Self, from embodied spirituality, and from divine feminine wisdom. This is the split that fuels sexism, colonialism, capitalism, and the ecological crisis.

 Understanding where patriarchy comes from helps us understand that healing patriarchy’s wounds will not come only from social activism or institutional changes. Societal healing and collective awakening will come from our personal spiritual healing and embodied inner work. Healing from patriarchy requires trauma healing, a spiritual path of reclaiming wholeness in embodiment, and a spiritual awakening that includes reconnection with the earth and our bodies.

We are looking at a culture built on the body's survival response. We are looking at dissociation into intellect and then a validation of this dissociation by being condescending toward that which it has left behind and repressed, due to fear. Defining Trauma and Resilience:

Here we are looking at resilience as the result of a process of fully incarnating. Almost all of us have had what I'd call an interruption in the incarnational process. We are not fully embodied and not fully in contact with life. There is a gap between the place where we are currently hovering (soul partially out of body), and the fullness of direct experience awaiting us when we land further into the body and the moment (achieving union between Selves and dimensions). That gap (our partial self-absenting) makes us vulnerable to life's events because here we lack the embodied resilience to handle the high charge to the emotions and the nervous system that traumatic events bring. Finding resilience through deepening our incarnational process helps us heal from past trauma and become stronger to face the present and future. This is the spiritual path as a movement towards intimacy with life, rather than a distancing from it.

Deepening our incarnation (our embodiment) helps us with current difficulties and gives us the ultimate preventative protection from future trauma.

This is the process of embodiment which occurs through the completion of the incarnation process (some indigenous lineages relate this with soul retrieval). Deepening our incarnation (our embodiment) gives us the ultimate preventative protection from future trauma.

Defining Trauma and Resilience:

Here we are looking at resilience as the result of a process of fully incarnating. Almost all of us have had what I'd call an interruption in the incarnational process. We are not fully embodied and not fully in contact with life. There is a gap between the place where we are currently hovering (soul partially out of body), and the fullness of direct experience awaiting us when we land further into the body and the moment (achieving union between Selves and dimensions). That gap (our partial self-absenting) makes us vulnerable to life's events because here we lack the embodied resilience to handle the high charge to the emotions and the nervous system that traumatic events bring. Finding resilience through deepening our incarnational process helps us heal from past trauma and become stronger to face the present and future. This is the spiritual path as a movement towards intimacy with life, rather than a distancing from it.
