The message of the Lord's coming comforts those who believe. During the season of Advent we are called to remember that the Lord is with us, and it is He who comforts us.  

Pope Francis is often misunderstood for not enforcing the moral teaching of the Church as clearly as perhaps some would like.  In order to understand Pope Francis we must realize how he looks at the primary attitude of a Christian.  

The best way to prepare for Christmas is to "Keep Awake", by staying focused on the good from the past in order to live in the hopeful expectation of the good in the future.  Join me in this reflection on the proper use of our memory. 

On this Solemnity of Christ the King we remember that Jesus came as a Warrior King in order to fight against the enemy of humanity.  Jesus fought, but not with the weapons of this world.  His weapons were those of humility, poverty, and obedience.  We too must fight!

Every once in a while it is good to go back to the basics and ask the "why" questions.  Today's readings invite us to do that.  Learn the 3 purposes for the existence of the Church, remember them, and never be derailed again.

The wisdom of God is essential for a life filled with hope and meaning, and it must include our focus on eternal life.  Too many of us are overly attached and focused on this life, and not on the life to come.  Jesus reminds us that this life's purpose is to prepare for our own death. Changing our perspective on the purpose of our life can help us enjoy the process of preparation for eternity. 

When leadership fails, the path to healing must be rooted in Jesus' invitation to humility.  The answer must be rooted in humility and not in pride.

Jesus tells us to "give to Cesar what belongs to Cesar, and to God what belongs to God".  In this homily I focus on the attitude of "giving" as the path to true happiness, as opposed to "taking" as a false and worldly path to happiness.

Just because you have received a gift and it is now yours to do with what you want, doesn't mean that disrespecting this gift will be without consequences.
