Sometimes as we travel along our journey in life, we hit a speed bump that asks us to slow down. Other times we might hit a pothole in the road that causes problems and stops you in your tracks. This is what happened to me on October 19, 2021.

Potholes can happen in life, but it doesn’t mean things you are trying to accomplish end. It means you are taking a slight detour towards something better. Listen in and hear my pothole story that had me rising into the light.

Do you talk out loud to your pet? I will admit we do in our family. I got started thinking about if pets listen to our talk, because of a recent experience I had at an animal shelter. For privacy reasons, I will not share the name or location of the shelter, other than I was with an organized responder group volunteering at a shelter, housing California Caldor Fire evacuated pets.

Our pets can and do understand what we are speaking to them. They understand commands, words, our body language and our tone of voice. They understand our feelings and emotions. They use all that sensory information to understand your verbal words. Listen in and start talking to your pet!

I share my own personal story of my relationship with our dog Odie, a 12 year old Dachshund/Terrier Mix. For the past 10 years, Odie’s bad behaviors have disrupted our family life. Aggressive barking, unfriendly behavior, pee marking, and separation anxiety have been his everyday life experiences, misbehaviors we have learned to tolerate. What do you do with a fear-filled dog? You learn to love unconditionally and support them in the best way you can.

Have you ever wondered what you pet is trying to tell you with their misbehavior? Your dog pees on the rug. Your cat hides under the couch. You probably become frustrated with their misbehavior, which can result in loud voices and anger. Misbehavior is a form of communication. What does their unspoken communication mean? Animals speak loudly through their misbehavior and we can learn to listen.

It is through the love of our pets that we can learn more about love. Pets speak to us through the language of love. We can learn from our pets to speak from love in all our conversations for healthy relationships. We can also have a conversation of love with our pets and ask them how they are feeling and how you can support them. Love makes all things possible!

Empaths are people and animals who are hard-wired to perceive and feel the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of others. Everyone has empathic abilities, some more than others.

Animals are emotional empaths. What does that mean? Animals are highly tuned into human emotions and feelings. They know and understand how you feel, because they feel how you feel.

Animals as emotional empaths are so sensitive that they can feel your stressful emotions in their body – they actually physically experience it. If you are feeling really stressed out, your pet cannot help but feel it. They may then exhibit stressed out behavior. When you notice your pet is acting stressed out, it might be because you are too. Animals sense your stress then act like a mirror to your Soul.

Most animal lovers would agree that some people’s bonds with animals are every bit as strong as those with other human beings. Some of those relationships are even less complicated; a dog’s devotion is faithful; a lap cat’s purring is soothing.

The emotional bond you share with animals has the benefit of increasing your awareness of love that is incomparable to anything else. There are moments when a single gaze into your pet’s eyes communicates an unspoken feeling. It is a spiritual connection of love and caring reflected in your pet’s behaviors.

Ahhh, anxiety. Something I have known quite well. I had spent the vast majority of my life living with anxiety. Feeling anxiety all the time does not feel good. Add in those pesky limiting beliefs like, “My life sucks, I cannot handle this, I’m not good enough” and it creates a mixture of high anxiety. That was my life for 42 years. Medication helped though, or so I thought.

Faith was something elusive and foreign to me. Faith is defined as having the unshakable confidence or trust in someone or something. Faith is all about believing situations can change. When you are dealing with feelings of anxiety, faith is hard to muster.
